So I was flirting with right-wing ideology for a time. I was espousing "law and order", nationalist, tribalist beliefs. But the things I saw personally at the protest here on Saturday and all the footage I've seen from around the world, along with my re-conversion to Christianity has broken something in me. I went from thinking police could be good to basically agreeing that police are a criminal gang that should be abolished in lieu of democratic community watch organizing.
First, I felt like a huge hypocrite since I personally don't like being told what to do, myself. So why support an ideology that forces things on others? That's not fair.
Second, right-wing ideologies are really against the spirit of Jesus' teachings, Who advocated for a form of primitive or spiritual communism. The early Christians lived in the fashion of a commune, sharing everything in common, as we read in Acts. So they didn't seem to support notions of private property, class and human hierarchy. The Book of Genesis makes the statement that Adam and Eve are made in the Image of God. Since we're all the children of Adam and Eve, Biblically, we're all made in His Image and equal before Him. That was quite a revolutionary statement in the ancient world and remains so today. (There's other Biblical justifications I can think of, too.)
Third, it's obvious that capitalism is an abject failure, especially the globalist, corporatist kind. It cannot give us answers for the future and is very outdated in this age of automation, which kills off jobs formally performed by human beings. Corporations with their bought off cronies in governments across the world are destroying humanity, non-human species and the environment in the name of greed.
Fourth, it seems apparent that we need to take an internationalist viewpoint towards the problems facing us. We're all human beings with the same essential needs. Even if we had a nationalist government that took care of its citizens, what of people on the other side of the world still suffering? No, I don't support the UN or some world government as a solution as it's obvious by now that the UN is a failure and a world government would likely just be another centralized tyranny. We need local solutions but in concert with our brothers and sisters across the world. I enjoy cosmopolitanism and celebrate all the different cultures. Much of the problems with immigration these days can be traced to capitalist exploitation of workers, anyway. Then they play the divide and conquer game to keep us fighting with each other.
Now, mind you, I'm not a Marxist or a Leninist. My sympathies still lie with anarcho-communism and libertarian socialism and communism. I will never support things like Stalinism or Maoism, as I view them as being on the level of Fascism and Nazism in their violations of human rights. I am also an religious person and my views are based on my Christianity, not a materialist worldview, so there's not much for me there.
