Australia to filter internet

It's great to be an anarchist in America, is my take. :D

But yeah, this is still a decent place, all things considered. Censorship - in any form - is not and should not be a function of the government, but rather the individual. Screen yer own dang net, leave mine alone.

I'm with you on that.

And feeding into the paranoia is not a solution. All this noise about pedophilia and racism, where does it lead?

Yea, the web is a new frontier for this kind of behavior but whether the net is censored or not these people will find a way to do what they do.

Suppose Phoenix had an enlightened mayor (yeah, I'm stretching it; bear with me); all I would have to do to get rid of him would be to break into his place and place some "questionable materials" on his hard drive... and he'd be all done. With the level of craziness already in effect, even if I was caught red-handed; the guy would be under a permanent shadow... and he'd be all done.

The unfortunate thing is people (some not all) know very little about protecting their data (work or personal). In my neighborhood alone there's at least 2 or 3 unsecured wireless networks. Yea so gaining access to others networks is not all that difficult. Years ago I worked for the Federal Gov. which later allowed me to contract with ATF and their government LAN/WAN was exposed to the Internet. Government, be they US or Australia, need to worry about their own networks and leave the average man alone.

Sure will. When the library censored their net, still got porn using proxies. ( I was bored. :D) But I got the Firefox, I got the No-Script... I ain't seeing nothing I don't wanna see.

They're just ticked off 'cause the All Blacks kicked their arses three times this year.
Knowing Aussies this is closer to the truth than anyone realises...

Their ISPs are fighting it pretty hard. Not sure their govt will go through with it.

As a pagan and the minister of communications being a devout catholic my concern is that he will start filtering pagan stuff under the "it's satanic" speil.

I know lots and lots of pagans and none of them believe in the xtian satan. Otherwise they'd be xtians wouldn't they.

Nah, they're only doing it due to corporate copyright holder pressure. Same as everywhere. Don't expect any more policing of religious or other civil liberties than their already is... just copyright enforcment.
