Atheist Myth: “No One Has Ever Killed in the Name of Atheism”

One can legitimately say some wars have been fought for religious reasons, estimates tend towards 6-9% of total wars.

Whether their total death toll exceeds that of communism is open to debate.

Well, if you consider the absolute total of all deaths caused by communism without trying parse those that have nothing to do with the link between atheism and communism vs the death caused by all major religious wars, you arrive at around 60-150 million death for communism and about the same things for wars of religion.

To him, religion is an enemy of humanity because it places God above humans and anything that place somthing above humans will be used to crush and abuse humans once it gains political power.

It's an enemy of humanity as it induces false consciousness which precludes the fulfilment of a communist society.

It's not simply about institutions

It would be good to note that most of the people who died and suffered under the USSR or Communist China didn't suffer and die due to their religious convictions, but due to other faillures and wars that have little to do with the place of atheism in communist philosophy.

What I was noting was that the belief that there was no god justified the expendability of human life in pursuit of the 'greater good'.

The didn't die because of their religious convictions, they were expendable due to the ethical system of the Soviets which was, in part but significantly, based on the belief there was no god and thus human life cannot be said to be sacred.

Seems pretty reasonable to me

I've heard the argumemt many times that injustices occur often in the name of religion, but I've found it interesting that the same could also be said about Atheism. So what is true about Atheistic ideologies.

What about those who have died in the name of atheistic philosophies such as:

"marxism, socialism, communism, maoism, Nazism, fascism, totalitarianism, libertarianism, monopolistic capitalism, robber barronism, industrialization, secularism, jingoism, anarchism, social darwinism, eugenics, malthusianism, messianic scientism, nihilism, anti-humanist terrorism, individualism, narcissism, physicalism, materialism, consumerism, modernism, postmodernism, nietzscheism, Marquis de Sade's sadism, (i.e., sadistic murders) moral relativism, hedonism, radical feminism, (i.e., abortions, infanticide, suicide, false claims of rape) radical environmentalism, (i.e., ecological terrorism) Anton LaVey's satanism, (i.e., ritual murders) and the "Law of Attraction." (i.e., the deaths, including suicides, caused by Peter Popoff, Sylvia Browne and other gurus") All of these atheistic philosophies have resulted in the deaths of countless hundreds of millions of human beings. In comparison, the deaths caused by religion seem almost quaint and insignificant."

...What do you say about the hundreds of millions of deaths from the above? Which come from the source below..?

Atheist Myth: “No One Has Ever Killed in the Name of Atheism”
Landon, you're going to hate me for this, but I would ask you -- since you brought it up -- to actually do some historical research. Look at each of the "-isms" you've listed, then check out what deaths they caused, and finally, look into what was the given reason for those deaths.

I'll let you off easy...there's a bunch you don't have to bother with, like narcissism, consumerism, nihilism.

Many of those havent killed anyone or aren't explicitly, implicitly, inherently or implied atheist. Some of them, like the Nazis, even worshipped Jehovah.
Anton LaVey's satanism, (i.e., ritual murders)
Are you done posting bull****?

No one has ever killed in the name of atheism, Lavey Satanism, secular humanism, libertarianism or Nietzsche.

Hey, don't blame me, I didn't pen the link.
But you falsely presented it as evidence that people were killed in the name atheism. When the examples listed either were not done in the name of atheism, aren’t examples of atheism or weren’t even killers.

It's very, very common for people to reach the point of denial when their self-perceived group or "tribe" is associated with wrongdoings. Often times, as I've seen here, goalposts are shifted to the opposition, as @ChristineM attempted to do, and was mildly successful with some. But ultimately, flat out denial is typically the first natural instinct. Thank you very much for showing me that first hand.

But Shadow is correct. And I say that as a theist.

I'm showing you a link and asking your opinion of it.. What it seems like, is that some people are unwilling to acknowledge a majority of these arheist killings, even after @Augustus went through painstaking detail to outline it for you. And I do thank him for his contributions not just because he helped my case, but because his knowledge was very informative and interesting.

I have no pee-pee on my cereal, but I do admit that I like the squirming I see from those who enjoy blasting my "tribe" every chance they get.

...Does it feel good to do this? I'm not going to lie, of course it does. But who doesn't appreciate seeing the underdog rise up every now and then?

You wrongly accused many groups and ideologies of murder and I'm the one in denial? Literally, you accused some forum members of murder, alleging they do it for rituals.
The very fact you are able to put those religions, philosophies, and other adhectives, claiming they killed on behalf of those beliefs (such as the Satanists performing a ritual murder) inherent means they are not killing for atheism. They're doing it for those things you listed, egen though largely and mostly you present a bull**** list, accusimg many innocents of murder.

Sometimes atheists only believe what their fathers tell them. Sometimes its their mothers. Sometimes its neither or both. Statistically speaking since you can't always tell you have about a 33% chance of guessing. -- Just my 2 cents and contribution to the conversation.

If I believed what my parents told me I'd have become an Anglican priest like my brother (now deceased).

Underdog? What are you talking about? You presented bold faced lies and claimed false victory against some nebulous opponent.
Go outside, smell some flowers. I dunno take your girl or guy to the park or something.
Chill my brother.

Well, Atheism causes so much death and destruction in the world, it's important to keep tabs on it.

The same is true for Theism so we should be keeping tabs on everyone and stop thinking that someone's belief or non belief of a God/Gods defines if they're good, evil or in between.

You call it that, you say its that, but many of us know better and see through your acts. But, I promise, it's not squirming, its anger as you accuse people of being cruel if they are intelligent, say they are living an empty shell of a life if they are athiest, and now it's murder.
Thats how it is for me, at least. First you accuse me of being cruel because Im highly intelligent, and now you accuse my "ideological neighbors" of murder, simply and only because they are Satanists. Amd you want to pretend we have much in common?
