Need suggestions for a special gift, other than monetary, for completion of his PHD. The way things are right now does not allow for the celebration that was planned.

PHD in what might be some cool things concerning the degree. What are the persons hobbies. Basically anything that can help the person along there new journey whether realistic or relaxing and money is always good.

I agree. Unless we know the person we can't really give advice. A gift should reflect something the person would really appreciate and cherish.

Thankyou all for the ideas. He has accepted an offer from Intel. As for hobbies through the years, he makes very sophisticated items with his 3d printer, scuba diving, a great cook, fantastic drummer, designed his own fireworks display, gaming. Initially his field of study was in chemical engineering, he is 28. Some people have a natural talent for selecting the right gift, I am not one of them.
