Anyone play Ark: Survival Evolved? A friend suggested it to me because I like Sid Meier's Civilization so I lashed out $42 on steam yesterday and got it because I'm so bored in lock down. So far I hate it and feel like I wasted 42 bucks, I spent the first hour dying so watched a few youtube tutorials and have now made clothes, weapons and started a hut but I'm finding it mind numbingly boring. Maybe I'm just sick of computer games.

I have nearly 1,100 hours on it. It sometimes goes on sale where it drops to $20 or less (without DLCs), but I got it for $15 during a sale when it was still in early access.

If you're not on console, I highly suggest playing modded servers with boosted rates for taming, harvesting, etc. That removes so much of the grind and makes the game immensely more enjoyable, especially if you're on a limited schedule and don't have at least a few hours to spare every day. If you're on console, you won't have mods but will still be able to play on servers with boosted rates.

Some of the bigger mods like Primal Fear and Ark Eternal are so content-rich that they're literally like free DLC. Others like Awesome Teleporters, Death Recovery, and S+ remove the grindiest, most tedious aspects of the game.

Feel free to PM if you'd like any tips on the game or mods in general! I almost gave up when I first got the game and had to spend nearly 45 minutes feeding a baby dino, but I later realized my mistake was playing on an unmodded server with vanilla rates. The game became completely different (and much better!) when I fixed that. :D

By the way, SteamDB is a very useful resource for keeping track of game sales and how often they occur. According to it, Ark was on a 67% sale and went for just $10 on American Steam starting on July 29--just about a month ago.

Here's the website so that you can perhaps use it to check for the possibility of a sale before future purchases: https://steamdb.info/

Thanks for the info :) I'm playing on PC so I'll look into mods and see how I go. I normally buy steam keys via Kinguin, they're usually a lot cheaper then getting them from steam but for some reason they were more expensive. I'm in Australia so I think our prices are different to the U.S. but I don't really know, this was the first game I bought from them directly.

I tried it, I do enjoy these types of games. Im not really sure why your friend would suggest you to get Ark because you played Civilization? These games are not even remotely alike :D

What type of games do you like, might be able to suggest some then?

Civ 3 is my all time favourite, I've played world of warcraft since it came out but I'm over it, getting too old and slow. I have enjoyed RPG games but they're usually too complicated these days.

Some of the RPGs get a bit more complicated. But you might like these, they are very good in my opinion.

    Divinity: Original sin 1 & 2
In my opinion these are some of, if not the best in the genre. There is a lot you can do in them, but they are fairly easy in their mechanics, so you don't get confused about how or what to do. Also it is turned based combat, which gives you all the time you want to decide what to do.

Pathfinder kingmaker / Pathfinder wrath of the righteous
These are a whole lot more complicated, but still a lot of fun. But you will have to spend some time getting into all the classes and skills etc. But then it also give you a lot of replayability. Also these games allow you to rule your own country or kingdom, with advisors and so forth, which is a lot of fun. These can be played both in turn based combat which again give you all the time you need to decide what to do. For Kingmaker - Enhanced Plus Edition as it have the turn based option. but I would probably still suggest getting that one first, it is really good. Wrath of the righteous just got released so it have a lot of bugs in it, but also introduce a lot of new stuff.

    Humankind
I haven't tried this one, but if im not mistaken this is a lot like Civilization with another take on it. But besides that I don't really know anything about it.

Some games you might like, simply because they are seem as being very good in general by people.

    XCOM 2
This is tactical squad based game, where you are running a military operation against some aliens. You get to level your soldiers, manage your base, research and stuff like that. So if you like sci-fi and strategy this is really good.
