Are You Both a Capitalist and a Socialist?

I think so yeah, I was discussing this with my boyfriend (who used to be a marxist, though I don't know really what that entails since I'm new to politics), I think that people with ambition need to be able to capitalize on their skills. There needs to be some room for individuality.

Socialism has nothing to do with individuality or restriction of thereof, unless, of course, you subscribe to the capitalist mentality of "corporations are people". The concept of wealth conflicts with individuality and autonomy in the first place. Socialism can actually allow more room for that. Communism, including Marxism, and especially Stalinism, holds the central facet of making all people one with the government, thus destroying all religion and art which does not represent the "common man".

I think that capitalism works only on a small scale. On a national scale, socialism becomes necessary.
