I wonder why they would target journalists.

    Does Hasbara strike again?

Keep the journalist quiet so we can present Israel in a good light without press contradiction.

Israel destroys Gaza tower housing AP and Al Jazeera offices

The building was 12 stories tall, and from the photograph you could see it had many satellite dishes mounted on top as well as a tall antenna.

AP said Israel warned them the building would be hit. AP says they are shocked and horrified.

Al Jezeera also had offices in the building. Al Jezeera said the strike was barbaric and that the aim of the attack was to silence the media.

Israeli military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus said Hamas was using the presence of the press there to hide military assets and that the aim of the attack was not to silence the media. He did not say whether Hamas had been warned that the building would be hit.

Hamas will be asking the question "How did they know we had military assets in the building?" Perhaps this is why USA asked Israel to insure the safety of the journalists. Possibly they will be suspected of revealing the intelligence.

You have to be pretty gullible to believe the Israeli excuses on this one, it was clearly an attack to paralyze the media operations by destroying all their equipment and locations.

Just because they gave a warning doesn't mean they weren't targeting them. It was clearly designed to send a message to the media.

it was specifically designed to destroy all the media companies expensive electronic equipment, used to make, edit and transmit programmes, The Israelis actually refused to give the media 10 extra minutes to remove any of their equipment, if you believe this has anything to do with Hamas in the building and not quashing media freedom, you would believe anything Israel tells you.

Perhaps it is worth noting that the other news agency in that building was Al Jazeera.

To be fair, the alliance with the US (and its billions of dollars in developmental and military aid - the US is effectively bankrolling the IDF) is vital to Israel's national interests and perhaps even its continued existence as a sovereign nation, so it makes sense for both the Netanyahu government and its most ardent supporters to publically suck up to any POTUS that seems somewhat friendly to their cause.

I see more than sucking up. There's control thru political
influence exerted here. We hear of the "Jewish lobby"...
...but the name belies the fact it largely comprises Christians
dedicated to Israel & Zionism. In effect, Ameristan is both
creating & enabling the problems. Hard to say if the dog (us)
wages the tail or vice versa.
The demographics the country & its leaders make us not quite
a theocracy, but it seems we have the foreign policy of one.

What? You work place is bombed and destroyed by precision bombers and you would not feel targeted?

Hamas has a history of hiding among human shields. AP likely knew Hamas was using the building too. Since there are many simpler ways Israel could deal with the AP without any risk of outcry it is illogical to think it targeted the AP by this building destruction.

A CNN commentator made some interesting points on war crimes. Israel may have been guilty of a war crime here. If they cannot provide evidence that supports their claims what they did was a war crime. If they can provide the evidence for their claims then the buildings were valid military targets. He also pointed out that there is no doubt that Hamas is guilty of war crimes. He gave several specific examples and it is a problem for the media that they do not hold Hamas up to the same standards as they are trying to hold Israel to. Hama has directed unaimed rockets at civilian cities. That is a war crime. Their armed forces have worn civilian clothes to blend in with the other civilians. That is a war crime. He points out that it is clear that Hamas is guilty of war crimes. Israel be guilty of a war crime for this event. And the commentator was David French.

TLDR: Military and law expertise, conservative but not crazy conservative. For example did not support Trump.

I would say that you are probably correct here. It is a clear loss if they cannot support their claims. I doubt if they are that "anti-media". And international law is clear on this. If the military is using a civilian building it does become a valid military target. Warning the people was a courtesy since it allowed the Hamas operatives to get away with the civilians.

No it was to lessen loss of life. That's not targeting the media.

First thing any military action needs to do is disrupt any possible lines of communication to maintain tactical superiority.

Isn't it possible they were targeting the equipment in the building used by media? They don't have to kill the people for that. The warning was long enough for people to get out with their lives, but not enough to remove any of their equipment that they use to communicate with the rest of the world. So, if what you're saying is true, then they certainly disrupted some of the lines of communication.

According to the statement by AP, they just narrowly escaped death. It would be far worse if any American journalists were killed.

Keeping communication equipment intact would present a risk of the enemy using it, so its not surprising to see it included. I don't think it's as much AP as it was with Al Jazeera whom the latter they probably had made a risk assessment and decided it was too dangerous to leave any communication equipment intact. Not saying it was actually true, just it's how I see it.

If it was only AP, then I would of had a different opinion in regards to targeting the media in the way they did here. I cant picture AP warning the enemy but it seems Al Jazeera might.
