Gosh it's been so long since I was involved in chess matches. No doubt they can be nail biting.

I still remember IBM's deep blue match and subsequent matches against AI. That piqued my interest but has waned since the Larry Christiansen and Bobby Fischer era. I was a huge fan of Anatoly Karpov back in the day.

My heart sunk with his defeat with Garry Kasparov.

They could get a larger audience if they made it "full contact chess"...just sayin'.

Chess....it's the soccer of the board game world.
    Go is much better....
No draws. (OK maybe a draw 0.00001% of the time.)
Bigger board means strategies are more global.
Multiple raging battles affecting each other.

These are not World Champion Matches. They are Human World Champion Matches. Computers were not allowed.

I wonder if anyone had competitive matches between AI? I can see a "sport" growing out of that.

    From your link:

Sadly, the Rock Paper Scissors International World Championships are not currently scheduled. We look forward to bringing back the event in the coming years.

    Blown away.

“In training, AlphaGo Zero discovered, played and ultimately learned to prefer a series of new joseki [corner sequence] variants that were previously unknown,” says DeepMind spokesperson Jon Fildes. Go games typically start with plays in the grid’s corners, allowing one player to gain a better overall position on the board. “Like move 37 in the second game against Lee Sedol, these moments of algorithmic inspiration give us a glimpse of the creativity of AlphaGo and the potential of AI,”
