Anti-mask Huntington Beach restaurant says it will only serve unvaccinated diners – Orange County Register

How does one prove that one is not vaccinated? This doesn't even make any sense.

While the emergence of the Delta variant of COVID-19 has many businesses and consumers proceeding with caution, Basilico’s Pasta E Vino in Huntington Beach continues with its campaign of noncompliance with state safety recommendations. It recently posted a sign saying it will be asking diners for “proof” of being unvaccinated.

It’s the latest in a series of defiant actions from the restaurant, which started with an anti-masking campaign in May 2020. The restaurant asked customers to remove masks when they were inside.

A message from ownership posted Saturday, June 27, 2020 on social media explained, “So to be clear, if you enter the restaurant for dine in, and want to wear a mask, you must remove it when sitting down. If you are standing around inside and waiting for a table, or waiting inside to pick up food for yourself or as a third party delivery driver, and you are wearing a mask, you will be asked to wait outside.”

The business’s stance put its liquor license at risk when it was accused by the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control of being a “disorderly premises.” The license is still active, but “The case is pending, and the department is unable to comment on pending litigation,” said a spokesperson for ABC.

Still, the restaurant maintains its position. “We feel blessed to go into battle against all of you in defense of American liberty and freedom, so bring it on!” read its latest message posted today, July 26, on Facebook.

Owner Tony Roman did not respond to an email request for comment. But in the past the restaurant has been outspoken about its views on social media and by advertising, at one point taking out a billboard in Los Angeles near the Beverly Center with a nod to “The Godfather.”

“Leave the mask, take the cannoli,” read the sign, which showed the iconic puppeteer’s hand from movie posters for Francis Ford Coppola’s classic film and the name of the restaurant. It’s a replica of a smaller sign that was posted in the shopping center where the restaurant is located on Brookhurst Street.

The line refers to a scene from the movie in which Clemenza and Rocco whack Paulie. “Leave the gun, take the cannoli,” says Clemenza to Rocco after the deed is done.

According to its Instagram posts, Basilico’s was fined $152,060 by Cal/OSHA on June 17, 2021 and responded on July 10 by posting names and phone numbers of administrators and inspectors that supporters of the restaurant could call to voice opposition, as well as film clips from the “Godfather” films suggesting the restaurant would refuse to pay.

"Leave the mask, take the cannoli."

The Godfather references are kind of cute, though.

"Tattaglia's a pimp. He never could've out-fought Santino. But I didn't know until this day that it was Balisco's all along."

How is being vaccinated treasonous and anti-American? Did the guy mentioned it?

I'm not sure. Maybe he thinks there's something in the vaccine that will turn the vaccinated into mindless zombies, ready to do the bidding of the Chinese government. Perhaps he believes there's an international plot against America.

For some people, mask fatigue could be a factor. It's possible that some people are just so sick of wearing masks that they'll latch on to anything they think will justify not wearing one.

So what? If Zombies want to come to your restaurant just serve sautéed brains.

What's the argument of the party that would support that guy's argument for vaccination to be treasonous and anti-American?

Hmm lets see..... There's all kinds of crap out there. Some go like.....

Some say....The dems are trying to chip us, control us, change our DNA, etc. If you take the vaccine your anti-American.

Some say....The repubs think the virus is fake, they don't care how many die. If they cared for America they would take the vaccine. By refusing they show they are anti-American.

and some Democrats believe that some Republicans believe in conspiracy theories and think they are big idiots and ********.

Is that a good resumé of your situation?

I never got why the US transformed the entire COVID thing into a partisan issue.

How many actually think the virus is fake?

I would think that's misinformation made about Republicans leading into all the wild assumptions made by democrats.

Its because addressing climate change, pandemics, etc. is costly. The rich don't like this and would rather lose lives than profits, so their pocketed politicians dupe dopes into rejecting science, believing wacky conspiracy theories, voting against their own interests, etc.

All sounds like a very good reason to avoid that restaurant.
As it will attract the un vaccinated and risk takers who are likely to be carriers and spreaders.

The objective, scientific facts speak for themselves. It's observable and verifiable.
Nobody has anything to gain by fabricating climate change, pandemics, but industries hurt by these things have much to gain by denying them, so they lobby against science while manipulating gullible bumpkins.
Do you honestly believe that all of the world's scientists and doctors are all wrong but a handful of politicians (who deny evolution as well) from U.S. backwaters are right?
