This is awful. To see cultures and religious groups just wiped away so quickly. The worst part, to me, is that the majority of the world won't know about it. Or at least won't know the full story.

I never thought I'd say this, but I hope the Iranian government gets more involved and sends in troops if ISIS continues to expand.

Sounds as if they should of been challenged already. I suppose there are reasons why they are unabated. It can't be all fear.

It's not fear at all. Iran has a direct interest in seeing ISIS defeated. But it is complicated

    1) Maliki is pro Iran, pro Russia and pro USA.
    2) The US wants to see Iraq as one, Iranian troops will give the idea that a shia state is what Iran is coming to defend
    3) If Iranian troops enter the fight, it will strongly legitimize ISIS as the protector of Sunnis
    4) If Iranian troops enter the fight it will get bloody and messy
    5) The Kurds
    6) Iranian proxies have been severely weakened with their wars against the jihadists, like Assad and Hezbollah. The last thing Iran wants to do is weaken its own army

But in the end ISIS is a direct threat to Iran because ISIS kills Shias with the same hate that it kills other religious minorities.

500 Yezidis have been murdered so far and 40 of them have been children, all in a few days.

I don't know, I don't think it would matter. Many of them are dying of thirst or hunger in the mountains. When they come down ISIS is there waiting to kill. It's horrible.

The only hope they have is either if the Peshmerga somehow push ISIS back or Iran sends in its troops. Both of those are unlikely scenarios at the moment. ISIS has started defeating Peshmerga units and has started to invade Lebanon now. So I think the only hope for Iraq is an Iranian invasion. I really never thought I would say that.

Well according to Rûdaw (which is a Kurdish news source), the Pershmerga have begun to fight ISIS in Mosul. We'll see what happens but I'm personally rooting for the Kurds.

Yea they recently got new heavy weapons (probably from the US or Israel) so it's good. Maliki has also asked the Iraqi air force (aka Russian planes piloted by Iranians) to assist the Kurds.

But I think eventually ISIS and the Kurds will come to a truce because both have a lot of interest in creating their own states.

40,000 Iraqis stranded on mountain as Isis jihadists threaten death | World news | The Guardian

"Tens of thousands of members of one of Iraq's oldest minorities have been stranded on a mountain in the country's north-west, facing slaughter at the hands of jihadists surrounding them below if they flee, or death by dehydration if they stay."

This truly breaks my heart because I do empathize and sympathize with these people, whose history and religion is similar to my own. I think this is the first time I have ever been really sad about what is happening in Iraq. Through sorrow comes anger and through anger comes action. The cowards will pay.

This is a new updated values on ISIS

"I would say there are now between 30,000 and 50,000 of them," Hashimi said. "Of those, I would say 30% are ideologues. The others have joined out of fear or coercion."

I knew that the official statistic of 7000 was ridiculous. ISIS is close to 50,000.
