Husband of L.A. County DA Jackie Lacey to face charges after waving gun at protesters | KTLA
    Excerpted....
The husband of Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Jackie Lacey is facing multiple misdemeanor charges in connection with a March incident in which he waved a gun at protesters outside his Granada Hills home, a law enforcement official told the Los Angeles Times.

The California attorney general’s office, which was investigating the matter due to the conflict of interest for local prosecutors, made the decision to bring charges earlier this week, according to the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the ongoing investigation.

David Lacey is being charged with three counts of assault with a firearm, according to a charging document obtained by Politico.

The chaotic scene unfolded on March 2, when protesters affiliated with Black Lives Matter L.A. and other local organizations descended on Lacey’s Granada Hills home for a pre-dawn protest. Several of the demonstrators knocked on Lacey’s door, and her husband answered brandishing a handgun.

This one is different from the other. The info presented so far
suggests it could've been reasonable. Pre-dawn....at the door
of his home....these are mitigating circumstances.

There's been more than a few folks killed during these protests. I don't think it is unreasonable to want to protect your family.
Of course, most protesters don't intend violence but how do you know?

A lot of protesters have been attacked by police, federal agents, and Neonazi vigilantes.

Do you think it would be reasonable for them to bring firearms to a protest, to defend themselves against such danger?

    For defense, sure.

So you would be in support of armed protests, so long as they only carried firearms for the purpose of defense? Incidentially, how could we tell whether somebody brings a gun for offensive or defensive purposes?

I'd suspect if they were the first to draw their weapon, that be a sign of not using their weapon for the purpose of defense.

Ehhh I dunno. If I woke up to a large group of people outside of my house before dawn, I might grab a piece on my way to the door, too. You have no idea who is on the other side of the door and no idea what the intention of the perceived mob is.

Who drew their weapon first in the article linked in the opening post?

I can't read it because the site is blocked for Europeans.

In their own homes, in "pre-dawn" raids?
And don't go banging on people's doors in the dark.

Does it matter where they are being attacked?

Fair enough, ok the first to draw their weapon and shoot. Fortunately, no firearms were discharged in the OP link.

Unfortunately, we can't read minds, so it is always a risk while trying to determine someone else's intent.
Video shows a Black man waving a gun around. Not sure what prompted him to open the door however the guy taking the video was right at the door, so maybe they were ringing the bell.
Myself, I'd never show up at private residence pre-dawn. Unless it was someone I really knew well. I kind of expect to be met by someone with a shotgun in hand. No knowing the intent of the person on either side of the door.

    Of course it does.

    Is that really a question?

If I'm attacked in my home in the middle of the night that's profoundly different than being attacked in the middle of the night while invading someone else's home.
You really don't see the difference?

Especially if your wife had been receiving death threats.

Suppose Mr Lacey, and a few dozen of his closest friends, were pounding on the door of
"Alicia Garza - Wikipedia", in the middle of the night. He's angry that she and her BLM friends are sending death threats to his wife. He's there to HAVE A CONVERSATION!

Would it be wrong of her or her family to open the door with a weapon? Should they wait for a jury?

What's the point of everybody having lots and lots of lovely guns if you can't point them at people occasionally?
