Because I was in a lobby that requires them/out in public.

And we've improved car designs and have rules and license revocation to mitigate these risks.
What? People die from accidents at home.
Or how about we act with a sense of responsibility? The kind of responsibility that comes with living in an organized society.

Would you wear it if you weren't required?

Yes, because a deadly disease is going around amd it's possible I may have it and not realize it, especially as it's likely to not be that bad for me if I get it.

You would ideally be in a small room for that to be more probable. Safe than sorry but if you were alone, I'd be scratching my head.

You must not be aware the virus can linger in the air for hours.
And "out in public" and "in a lobby that requires it" suggests I wasn't alone.
It's also called "being concerned for your fellow humans."

In my personal opinion, that sounds like fear: linger in the air for hours.

To use the special thing, you guys aren't the only ones thinking of others. No one is the victim.

Well then it stands to reason for people to stop overreacting and screaming its the bloody apocalypse out there.

Otherwise live in a bubble if one desires. Not everyone however, is going to be on board with an insular overprotective culture. That's just the reality and it's not changing no matter what.

The only people overreacting are the anti-vaxxers and even more so the anti-maskers.
My mask and my vaccinations allow me to meet with other people (also vaccinated and wearing masks if necessary). It's a question of who can wait for the second marsh mellow. Some children have problems with that.

There is no overreacting. It's straightforward pushback to a hypocritical party that is now completely hellbent on control and power over others to a point now where it's actually crossing lines in terms of individual freedom and choice.

    Oh, there's an overreaction alright.
On the part of the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers and their hate-filled protests and attacks against people who care about public safety:

"An aerosolized form of the virus "means the drop doesn't go down right away; it hangs around for a bit," Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on a recent episode of "The Daily Show." "So you could come into a room thinking everything's all right and then you inhale it."

"I think the WHO is being irresponsible in giving out that information," Donald Milton, an infectious-disease aerobiologist at the University of Maryland, told NPR in March.
He added: "The epidemiologists say if it's 'close contact,' then it's not airborne. That's baloney."

That is evidence for the virus lingering in the air. It doesn't say anything about the effectiveness of masks.

I wonder what we did differently over the last year and a half that caused the flu and colds to practically drop off the radar?

I'm with you. I don't know what happened to the Republican party of my youth. Barry Goldwater is spinning in his grave. The party has lost the plot and become radicalized with fundamentalist religious zealotry. The coup attempt in January is a prime example of how they want to achieve power and what they think of the Constitution.

It is likely an illusion because these folks are public about the issue. In other words, you hear about them more because they put themselves in the media more. And since they are not vaccinating and masking they are increasing their risk anyway.
