    Is it too early?

As unfortunate and tragic as the onset accidental shooting is it begs the question, why are so many actors in movies that are actively anti-gun act in movies that feature firearms?

    "NRA Safety Rules

The fundamental NRA rules for safe gun handling are:

    1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
This is the primary rule of gun safety. A safe direction means that the gun is pointed so that even if it were to go off it would not cause injury or damage. The key to this rule is to control where the muzzle or front end of the barrel is pointed at all times. Common sense dictates the safest direction, depending on different circumstances.

    2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
When holding a gun, rest your finger on the trigger guard or along the side of the gun. Until you are actually ready to fire, do not touch the trigger.

    3. ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
Whenever you pick up a gun, immediately engage the safety device if possible, and, if the gun has a magazine, remove it before opening the action and looking into the chamber(s) which should be clear of ammunition. If you do not know how to open the action or inspect the chamber(s), leave the gun alone and get help from someone who does."

They also star in movies featuring aliens invading the earth but I don't think they support hostile aliens.

Great if gun owners would follow the guidelines. Unfortunately they don't and as a result an American is more likely to be accidentally shot by a school kid playing with his dad's loaded gun than by a terrorist out to deliberately kill people

...because explosions, special effects and bloodspatter are a cheaper plot device to draw in large audiences than taking the risk of having quality writers and original scripts? o_O

Right! I am a gunowner who, due to my rural upbringing, have a great sense of responsibility for the fact that I own a tool designed to make killing easier.

It is locked away out of sight, unloaded.

I do NOT post pictures of myself holding it menacingly on Facebook.

I don't call it a tool, because "weapon" is the correct term for a tool designed to kill.

My grandfather would roll in his grave knowing how irresponsible a lot of modern gunowners have gotten.

The NRA offers many resources and training programs to promote gun safety, in fact they have created, promoted, and endorsed more safety training programs than all anti-gun groups have combined:

"Safety is not only critical in handling firearms but in everyday life. The NRA offers resources and training to ensure the safe and effective use of firearms as well as personal safety. Training courses are available that teach proactive strategies to avoid dangerous situations, self-defense using a firearm, as well as protection inside and outside the home."

You can also accidentally fall down the stairs or accidentally fall off a ladder.

It's not exactly a widespread problem in comparison with other accidental injuries and fatalities.

Just use common sense and be properly schooled in gun safety, which i do agree is lacking with this irresponsible generation of people.

I'm willing to bet it's more problematic in city and suburban areas than rural where people are more aware of the risks involved.

Stairs and ladders aren't made to kill things.

Oh, c'mon! Shakespeare was a pretty competent script writer, as I recall, yet the Globe Theatre was burned to the ground in 1613 due to a cannonfire mishap in the play "Henry VIII."

"Those that can pity here, may, if they think it well,
Let fall a tear. The subject will deserve it." (Henry VIII Prologue).

Like i said, if people would only follow the guidelines. But people are people so many won't therefore it doesn't matter what guidelines they promote, they will be ignored by the vast majority of idiots with a gun

Killing is not a requirement for gun ownership.

Some skeet and target only. Aside from protection.

It's more better to say this can kill you as other things can kill you.

Guns are, by design, not made exclusively for target practice: if not, why not use paintballs or other non-lethal types?

They are designed to make killing easier.

Yet ive never heard of a child shooting someone with a ladder

    Correct, lacking

Does it matter to the victim where they are when a stray bullet opens up their skull(

The safest gun is the gun that does not exist.

More people have died in Ted Kennedy's car than at Three Mile Island.

That's hardly surprising. The clue is in "anti", not "pro."

I suppose that can be applied to knives and arrows as well?

Of course. But people like competition and bragging rights. It's why there is an Olympic rifle team.

Imagine that with paintballs or Airsoft...

Admittedly, watching a paintball match would be loads of fun.

I suppose that would make it difficult to catch prey and eat it with one's fingers.
