As a European I have a really hard time understanding why US people hate socialism. I much prefer a nationalised health service, rail service, electric board and prison system. I can't really think of a system much worse than trying to make profit from sick people or criminals, but there you go.
I believe it is probably because we like individual responsibility as much as possible. There are exception in certain areas, but the overall impetus of Americans is personal responsibility with its recompense. The root is to prevent the over control of government.

This has nothing to do with socialism.

I looked for something like that but didn't find anything. I'll keep looking. It's better to hear it from her own lips anyway. But at least the written article and her quotes do for now.
Found it!

I can certainly see why you wouldn't want a government under the current Head Honcho to control very much. Mind you - we're about to change ours and I'm none too hopeful...so far the contest seems to be based mostly around who smoked the most weed at college parties. And whilst I have some (not a lot though) sympathy with the idea that socialism can engender dependency, I have no idea what that has to do with a particular politician pushing for a pay rise. On the whole I think the main difference between the right and the left in politics seems to be that socialists are somewhat less confused.

I do agree that we should have some kind of socialized health care over here. But we have to do better than the affordable Care act.

Right wing mental process:

Socialism is evil.
Everyone is filty rich so increasing taxes on the top 1% is increasing taxes on everyone.
Socialism is evil.
Democratic socialism is socialism and thus evil
AOC is evil.
Socialism is evil.
AOC wants Congress to have a raise and she's evil so giving a raise to Congress after many many years oanywayise is evil.
When they get their crap together they can have a raise. Everyone else gets them based onanywaymance (anywayry, anyway), they should be clickifferent. Some do try, but as they say it only takes one to ruin it for everyone. Let it incentivize them to at least pretend to get along. Politics isn't fair, and they already have way more in income and benefits than most of those they represent will ever have. They want more, they can work for it.

Well , we all know how economically tough it is to make a living as a member of Congress.

It gets worse than that. Americans scream they dont want the government between them and their doctor, but insurance is so far wedged between althcare provider either does nothing or commits fraud if insurance won't cover something,

The Socialists won't be able to do it without affecting a person's Liberty and freedom in some capacity by which they can control and direct people's lives.

Perhaps because it is perceived as a threat to our grate orange leader.
I think it more has to do with the socialists who have that pathological need for control and subjugation with whatever it is that they do while robbing Peter to pay Paul.

I think "Socialism Unplugged" is to understand the historical motives of it's so called intellectual pioneers. Careful though, one might even begin to unravel some real hatred.
