I am going to sound really ridiculous asking this, but all my normal sources have failed me, so here goes.

To what extent can sex magic happen accidentally? As in, without trying, while having normal sex. I'm familiar with the basic ritual, but was curious about any magick that may happen without the ritual being performed. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Well sex itself is often considered a magical act, so I would argue that sex magic during sex is pretty much guaranteed ;)

However, if you're talking about influencing somebody else who isn't present during the act, the main way that I could see it happening is through your own awareness of sex magic coming to the fore while you actually have sex. Focus is one of the most important skills to learn in magic and can be difficult to maintain during sex.
From a more psychological point of view, accidental sex magic could be thought of as simply the fact that people who already have a sexual partner are often more appealing on a subconscious level to others (due to the fact that they are more likely to be unobtainable). This is a natural by-product of having a sexual partner in the first place.

Magic and altered states of mind go hand-in-hand. Sexual desire and the actual act of sex itself are good stimulations for altering one's state of mind. The real question is, what was the focus? If the focus during the sex was on the sex, well, you willed sex. You got sex. Job's done. If the focus was on something else however, you may want to keep an eye on that.

    Panreligious mystical paganism

When I was younger I used to sleep in the woods alone a lot. When I was scared, I would often masturbate and fantasize which 1) took my mind off the fear, 2) gave me a feeling of primal power, and 3) emphasized the mystical experience of being in the woods at night. It wasn't necessarily accidental, but was certainly instinctual and a great introduction to sex magic.

I tend to think of magic always having to do with one's *determination, will and intent* to perform magical acts, even as many other things can have strong energetic / magical *potential*, so I'd be likely to answer as follows.

It's likely to happen any time you realize there's a magic potential to the sex and use it, but without that intent, it's 'just' a normal sex.
