Thyagaraj is the department head of that thriving firm.
Typically in his mornings at office, a complete setting for chaos is usually in place.
Buyers, sellers, the audit men and sales men, his deparment co-ordinators, other heads.... he is bombarded with numerous, numerous questions and everyone has their own priority.
Today was the height of extremes! From morning, impatient customers and people around him played havoc on his mental peace.....Worst botheration was from Ranganath, his fellow department head, and what's worse, his best friend!!!
Finally, Thyagaraj sat at the lunch hour and wrote this letter -
"Veda Vyas compartmentalized the Vedas into 4 samhitas - Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva...
Those who know why will get a reward."
His friend Ranganath, the other department head wrote back an email titled, "The 4 Vedas" to Thyagaraj that same evening -
"I am sorry to have been a nuisance this morning.
So why did Veda Vyas divide the Veda into 4 categories?
For age - I understand everything takes time.... and further limited by the dominant nature of the present age. That Veda that is applicable to that age shall reform people. Going forth I shall only bother you for the most pressing need of the hour.
For virtue - Open the hearted, better they learn.... a certain Bhrigu muni got boon from Indra, to live an eternity so as to learn Vedas....finally, Indra told him, he can never master it all, what he learned is as much sand as could be filled from a nearby mountain in a thumbfold. Bhrigu learnt he does not have the potential to learn all of the 4 Vedas, ever.... He might as well do better if he learnt just 1 of those more profoundly. Going forth, I shall spend time to review what you give me and open-heartedly praise you for your best effort as it boosts our mutual understanding and makes us both prosper.
For understanding - The better the understanding capacity, the more profound will be the learning. Going forth, I shall learn things on my own too so that I can understand your efforts better."
Chuckling, Thyagaraj took his best friend Ranganath to a long, mighty walk that evening for a treat!!
Together they discussed, "How Pranava or the supreme principle could be therefore understood from what is apparently the chaotic diversity". And they concluded,
"Success of the office is based on letting go the self-interest of respective departments. In terms of the 4 Vedas, it is to be understood they are only *complimentary* to each other, and not *competing* against each other".
