A Republican Didn’t Really Suggest “Ankle Bracelets” As Punishment For Abortions, Did He?

Why not? This is North Virginnie country

"Republican Bill Drennan, who’s running for a State House seat in Virginia’s 87th District, is in the news after apparently proposing at least one bizarre idea that makes the loonier GOPers seem sane by comparison.

At a recent forum, held at Northern Virginia Community College’s Loudoun campus and sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Loudoun County, Drennan and the other candidates were asked about gun policy. What legislation, if any, would they support?

In response, Drennan compared abortions in Virginia to the number of gun deaths before suggesting that women who want the procedure should have to wear ankle bracelets to stop them from getting one.

This is the video that went viral online:

No sure how that would work, but it does sound rather backwoods stupid

At this point, the least they could do is quit pretending they give a damn about personal liberty and freedoms.

    I live in Indiana.
A Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate put "public flogging" into his political platform.
It's so much less expensive than locking people up for nonviolent offenses. Why burden the taxpayers?

It's kinda the problem we have here, too. There is a simplicity and soundbite quality to everything now. Judging whether an idea is good or bad comes down to our gut reaction, the reaction of 'our side' (politics, professional media, social media) and one or two key tenets we hold to.

    For (a very rough) example, anyone wanting to switch out prison time for flogging should be able to discuss their position in terms of;

    Incapacitation
    Deterrence
    Retribution
    Rehabilitation
    Restoration

(Obviously there are different theories of sentencing, but some flavour of this underpins Western justice systems)

But we never hear someone espousing flogging talking about the fact that the criminal is not incapacitated, nor rehabilitated. Instead there's a simplistic and anecdotal focus on deterrence and retribution.

I'm not even talking about the specifics of this issue, just that all issues are generally spoken about in ridiculously rudimentary fashion generally.

Drives me nuts. People appear to be goldfish. Damn people...

Keep all women hobbled and locked in the house to prevent them from running off and getting an abortion. And don't allow them to receive mail or friends because they might get abortion pills from them. I'm sure that ISIS has has great ideas about how to enslave women that this lunatic would really like. Or maybe ISIS is too moderate for him?

Well, I have to give the twit at least one point -- if there are so many more abortions than gun deaths, then I think it's likely that Americans (in Indiana, at least) are not very smart about how they use sex.

But then, I think it's probably quite true that many Americans (and yes, especially the religious), would rather not talk about sex, much less teach their children about it.

Want to make it better? Educate your freaking children. Stop thinking sex is dirty and unmentionable, and teach them to respect themselves and know what can happen when the unstoppable urge strikes.

It's not 'unstoppable' but otherwise I was nodding along with all this. And in a practical sense I know what you mean.

Indiana does some dumb stuff, but the OP wasn't there. However, the sex-tards of Indiana did teach me a woman's vagina is comparable to a piece of scotch tape in how it gets used up and it's like chewing gum in how you don't want icky, gross, nasty, sloppy seconds. And that condoms don't really work that well anyways.

He was presenting a deliberately extreme position on abortion to compare with what he perceives as similarly extreme positions on gun control. The full video makes that clear at the part the first video immediately cuts him off. I don't think it's an especially good argument and I don't agree with him but he didn't do what you accused him of.

    Darwin didn't murder anyone.

On the other hand, the are many spontaneous abortions daily...

Miscarriage - Symptoms and causesMiscarriage is the spontaneous loss of a pregnancy before the 20th week. About 10 to 20 percent of known pregnancies end in miscarriage. But the actual number is likely higher because many miscarriages occur so early in pregnancy that a woman doesn't realize she's pregnant.

Miscarriage is a somewhat loaded term — possibly suggesting that something was amiss in the carrying of the pregnancy. This is rarely true. Most miscarriages occur because the fetus isn't developing normally.
These spontaneous abortions are committed by God. It is the quickest way for Him to get more angels in heaven.

Funny how they never equate a penis with a rotten hot dog that gets nibbled on by different people.

Around here, this muttering old woman calls those "sheeple" unless too annoyed when something a tad less pleasant may have been known to be uttered.
