Although I'm not credited by name, I had a nice surprise today a few hours after I landed in Israel. The (early and medieval Islamic) archaeological excavation I was still working on a few days before I flew to Iceland got noticed in the media, with the area I supervised specifically discussed.

Here is one photo as it appears in the 'Daily Mail':

And here is the anonymous archaeologist who unearthed the hydraulic system :D

Yeah, I did take photos of it. I'll try to organize a short thread with some decent photos later on.

Are you sure that's not an archaic bong?

    Thanks!!!

You know, you are probably the 5th person who made that joke :p the other 4 people are on my FB friend list and I removed their comments... simply because it ain't funny :p
Of course the thought that it looks as a giant bong crossed my mind at some point, but it would not be academic of me to tell bad jokes to all the Islamic archaeology and history experts who came for a whole month to admire my plumbing with almost sacred awe. ;)

International recognition?!! Great. What's next, a comic book made after your various adventures?

    Starring your own movie, perhaps?!

Very well. Congratulations, Caladan. I'm very happy for you!!!

    I'd read that.

You gotta throw in some extra stuff, though, like every once in a while he digs up a mummy that attacks him in an action scene. Or like, mutant bees attack him and he has to fend them off with naught but a hat.

    At least once per issue.

I admit it. I too thought "bong" when I first seen the picture.

Congrats on the nice find. :)

Fantastic work ! What is the stratigraphy and context ? What are the phases and features ? Was it a development-led excavation ? Have you prepared a Harris matrix ?

It does bear a striking resemblance to certain artifacts left us by the ancient Bongloadians, although they weren't known to inhabit the Middle East.

Then again, legend has it that they got lost a lot. . . .

Thank you my friend and these are some good suggestions, so if any of our bright minds on the forum wishes to write a screen play, I'm up for it :D
BTW, although I sometimes find interesting Egyptian artifacts here, I'd love to excavate in Egypt one day as well. Inshalla.

Hey that last one with the bees is not funny anymore! That's one stunt I don't wanna pull anymore!:149:

Dammit, I am now going to be remembered as the archaeologist who excavated the millennium old bong in the Holy Land.

But just think how strong the resin will be by now (don't want to get a whiff of that water though).
