Because it is in the interests of the US for the middle east to be in warfare, because the US sells the most weapons, and that destabilization that occurs around war is useful for diminishing the strength of other nations, and the US is a competitive economy and if its competitors are weaker then it feels stronger.
A simplistic parallel was the British ability to keep the European continent from having any single power as the greatest simply by giving or withdrawing support from, respectively the weaker and the stronger nation, a evening up that causes the continental nations to remain focused upon each other rather than the british. The divide and conquer tactic worked real well for them all around the world for a long long time.
Divide and conquer. Ya ever wonder why the US tends to support one dictator whilst he gives them oil, then move to another and so forth. Not only does the US benefit from the war directly, but the weakness during a warfare state promotes the mindset of arming up, and oil/energy remains the most precious dollar for all purchases.
so it seems to me.
