I stroll through Giant Eagle (a regional supermarket in Ohio and PA) almost nightly foraging for food. After stalking my prey in the frozen food section and taking down a fattened Tombstone pizza, I headed to the refrigerated section for some extra cheese.

I passed through the leftover Halloween seasonal forest and saw some candy that had been left for dead. That's when I discovered...

OMG!!! These sugar kernels, dipped in liquid sugar, and sprinkled with sugar are like little drops of heaven. It's likely the best (non-chocolate) candy I've ever tasted!!

How are these things still sitting on the shelf two weeks after Halloween, especially at a price point of $.57 per bag???!!!

And only 71 calories per serving!! I haven't looked at the serving size yet, but I'm hoping it's like two bags per serving...

That'd be only 13 calories per sugar kernel, albeit there would be very little protein and zero fiber. There just isn't much nutritional value to this product.

I like giving granola bars to trick-or-treaters; granola bars are way more nutritious than candy. They aren't the most popular treat, but they are edible as well as nutritious. Children might not appreciate healthy foods now, but they will later in life.
