A Bug for Dan

I have sleep apnea and allergies. When the allergies act up the cpap doesn't work. I've been struggling with it all winter. I'm so tired sometimes, I'm not even sure how I stay awake. But I do and I get things done. Just not so efficiently as normal.
I'm sorry to hear that...(that should have been a friendly frubal). Allergies are awful right now for so many, too...

It's funny, now is when my allergies start to subside. I am apparently allergic to something in the house and when it gets opened back up with the coming spring and summer, my allergies abate. Whatever it is, it has hammered me this winter.

I've managed to reduce it by sleeping on my back, upper body elevated in a stable position. I'm usually on my side and I wake up with the bed looking like I had a fight in it. Since doing the elevated position, I've slept much better. It seems to keep my airway more open and make breathing easier, even with the allergies. Not perfect, but better.

Have you just considered sleeping outside?

I'd rather eat a bug.
If only eating a bug would solve the problem....

A red dragonfly from a few years ago, I don't recall taking the pictures or ever seeing a red dragonfly but apparently I did.

Ever tried rhinocort spray? It saved me from hayfever, I've been using it for 20+ years now and have not had one hayfever attack. I worry about taking something long term like that but the doctor has assured me there's nothing safer. Of course it may not be available there or under another brand name.

I looked and according to our FDA, this stuff is banned due to side effects like giant eyeball, seeing the dead, and something called "hotdog fingers" as well as seeing evidence that isn't there.

No, I am unfamiliar with it, but I'm looking to see if there is some sort of version available here. Just scanning Google, Wal Greens carries and over the counter version. I'll see if I can get some to try out.

Here's another possibility. I find I'm leaning more towards this as the identity of the species in your photos. I don't see some of the diagnostic characters in the red baron that match your picture. But some photos of the following species show that short, lateral line at the base of the abdomen.

Diplacodes haematodes - Wikipedia

There are not just one, but two species of red dragonfly in your area. That's fantastic.

Just catching up on this thread now that there are pictures I can see again. Some of these creatures, especially the wasps, are beautiful, like little jewels. Keep it up, @John53 !

In the UK we have some red damselflies - some used to breed in the pond at my father's nursing home. It was fun spotting the cases of the nymphs left behind after they had emerged, and the mating flight when they shed new eggs into the water. But I think our dragonflies are generally blue or green.

Sorry about the pic, it was just before dark yesterday and high up on the screen door of the patio and I was cooking 30 bucks worth of fish on the barbie that I didn't want to ruin. There was a fair bit of camera shake. I think it might be an Australian Assassin Bug pristhesancus plagipennis

The picture is good enough for me to recognize the form. Definitely and assassin bug. It bears a striking morphological similarity to a number of species found in my part of the US.

It is a group I've always been rather fond of.

What kind of fish? That's and important character that I need to know about.
