How capitalist health care is serving the needy worse and worse as rural hospitals close and get closer to closing.

From Becker's Hospital CFO Report:

892 hospitals at risk of closure, state by state

Across the U.S., 892 hospitals — more than 40 percent of all rural hospitals in the country — are either at immediate or high risk of closure. The more than 300 hospitals at high risk of closure either have lower financial reserves or high dependence on nonpatient service revenues such as local taxes or state subsidies, according to the report.

Alabama
Rural hospitals at risk of closing: 30 (65 percent)

Alaska
Rural hospitals at risk of closing: 5 (38 percent)

Arizona

Arkansas
Rural hospitals at risk of closing: 30 (61 percent)

California

The closing of rural hospitals has been an ongoing topic. There are many causes. There are also new solutions being explored.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
If it happens it happens. People ought to know the why and how things get to the points that they are now.

There's just foreword along with whatever it entails.

Best advice for common people is to adapt.

Nothing new. Rural communities are traditionally left out on a lot and at risk of having many services taken away (like local voting and routine postal services).

In Australia we seem to have forgotten the pandemic already and some politicians want to allocate money to road infrastructure more than ungrading the health services, which were overwhelmed in the Pandemic and which we know need input.

Meanwhile, the hospitals in my state are overflowing their capacity and are short staffed. Here is a recent story about a hospital outside of the metro area that had to call the firefighters in to help out in the emergency room:
Short-staffed hospital in Silverdale calls on firefighters to help treat patients

This occurred shortly after a nearby hospital closed:
Last public emergency room in Bremerton closed for good
And Bremerton is not a small place. What about Navy personnel?

In FL there are a bunch of walk in clinics popping up. I hope the other states have these as well, for at least the more minor things.

Let me guess, raising taxes?
No. Replacing smaller rural community hospitals with urgent care centers, mobile facilities, remote paramedic diagnosis (using 5G connectivity) and tiered, shared, partnered labs and facilities. This isn't the olden days. There are new solutions and more coming all the time.

There are still rural areas with no cell phone connectivity, much less 5G.
