70-72 Nations and Angels: Michael and the Explicit Name

I have read that in Jewish tradition there are either 70 or 72 "nations" which came of Noah's family. I have also read that there are guardian angels appointed to these nations, Michael included, and that it is said that Michael is the only one which has remained pure.

Is there any connection in any tradition between these angels and the 72-letter name of God, seeing as Michael is on both lists and both contain the same number? Or am I just exercising a bit of apophenia?
