We teach we came from Adam and Eve, evolutionists say we came from a single live cell that multiplied, may I ask where you think we came from? And if it is from another planet, do you have a theory on how life started there?
Thanks much
Do you understand dividing?
Let me ask you this in all seriousness.
Is time always the same?
What I mean by that question is this:
Are you the same now as when you were two, as when you were 22, or as when you were 42?
Were you treated the same at all of those ages?
There are divisions in...
First the littler thing (and then something rather more fun after the break below) : Did anyone point out that in chapter 4 (of Genesis) Lot left his nuclear family area, and went to another land, and took a wife there, from among those people?
It seems (one view, but one that fits all the...
No, I don't believe that all of our genes came from Adam and Eve. The earth was already populated when Adam and Eve arrived. In fact the "crafty beast" had already fallen. Cain found a wife in the land of Nod.
I can explain the Jewish perspective of how this works out from the Hebrew text and also ancient Jewish sources.
Jewish sources point to Adam and Hawwah (the Hebrew text does not contain the name Eve) had twins with each child. I.e. each male child had a twin sister.
There are Jewish texts...
I do sir, the fact is we came from somewhere, at some point of beginning. We Christians teach we descended from Adan and Eve, evolutionists teach a single cell became alive and multiplied.
Hi,
With due respect, your making a mistake in applying the Mosaic law to Adam and Eve. That law came into effect many hundreds of years later and applied only to descendants of Abraham.
Adam and Eve only had one law, which they failed to follow.
I think it's important to accurately understand...
It's all in the timing.
The laws regarding incest were some 2000 years after Adam.
Similarly, the law regarding monogamy was reinforced some 2000-n years after God allowing or tolerating polygamy.
Time does not affect God. He does things in his own time.
Have you considered the two man-making episodes in the Genesis? What if it was man first, then Adam. Surprisingly the septuagint uses Anthropos for the first episode, then Adam for the second.
So just consider it.
The bible does not actually say there were no humanoids before Adam. In fact, it indicates there were other people outside of Eden. Cain found a wife in Nod and was concerned he would be killed by those outside Eden, for example. It was simply assumed as there was once no evidence available to...
The Bible is a spiritual book with mysteries and symbolical meanings and not to be taken literally. This is one of those passages which requires some reflection to understand what it is trying to convey to us.
There are still literalists, yes. I am not one of them. Adam and Eve are not historical. Myth, however, is perhaps the most powerful form of literature around for teaching deep truths.
Metaphorically speaking, yes. I think the myth of a mother and father source lineage, from which all mankind's suffering and longings for release are captured quite well in the story of Adam and Eve. It's quite beautiful, actually.
Oh, you're being so literal! :) Of course that's not what the...
Are there still people in the 21st century that believe all humans are descendents from Adam and Eve, only two people?
Wouldn't that mean that when they had children, to have more children,,,
-the dad/mom had to sleep with their son/daughter,,,
-brother/sisters slept together,,,
-aunts/uncles...
I'm going to ignore the vast majority of that, and just jump instantly from notions of "violating yourself" to Abraham's impregnation of Hagar -- without the slightest biblical note of how she might have felt violated as a consequence. (Although, as I recall, Sarai was allowed to mistreat Hagar...
I haven't read the thread. Hopefully others have pointed out some of the below.
Prohibitions against incest with a first-degree relative are universal: Laws regarding incest - Wikipedia I can't think of any country that doesn't forbid sexual activity or marriage between first-degree relatives...
How can you critique the Bible when you seem to have not read it?
Although god does make exceptions [Lot].
The most cursory reading of the scriptures show that Lot's family was deceived, starting with an erroneous perception (we're the only people left on Earth, so let's get dad drunk and take...
