God is disproven by science? Really?

Audie, I have heard and read people claim that science disproves God since at least high school. Even more in college, including discussions with campus marxists, campus Christians, and professors (of history, philosophy, and political science). Even a few co-workers have asserted this, directly...

God is disproven by science? Really?

In my personal experience, when I see things happen someone or something makes it happen. There is either an active force (agent), or an insensible instrument, and if an instrument, an agent moving that instrument. I have been trying to think of a real-world phenomenon that I cannot attribute to...

God is disproven by science? Really?

Except that chance and randomness are not causal agents. They neither create nor affect. They describe a potential future ("There is a 90% chance it will rain in April." Following which there is no rain for 9 days, but rain on the 10th day. "Inevitable", a forecaster might say.) or a...

    Poll: Openness to Change

As for beliefs, I've somewhat given up. I do not anticipate new religious beliefs dramatically different from current world beliefs. Perhaps discoveries made on other planets will lead to new beliefs. Perhaps the cultures that develop there will introduce new beliefs. I am not currently...

Atheists: what do you think about all things spiritual/religious? Religious people: what about atheists?

I view them almost as I view myself, regarding our different Sets of Beliefs: When our bodies die, our consciouness continues. We will probably have the same fundamental beliefs after we leave our body as we had while in it. Our new circumstances will cause us to modify those beliefs.

Which sacred texts of your own and other traditions have you studied?

I found it easiest to start at 114 and work backward. But you would also find al-Maryam beautiful and easy to read and understand. Possibly al-Imran, too.

Spiritual significance of the full moon in various religious and cultural traditions

For me, and lacking a specific recognized religious/spiritual tradition, the Sun represents "That which is commonly called God". The full moon represents the female. I talk (what is "prayer"?) to both. The Sun as it rises, Kheperlike, and shines on my small, golden Surya, catching the first...

    Darwin's Illusion

With counter evidence. I was pretty clear about the futility of responding to the more hostile posts on this thread. If all you wanted was any response for whatever, yes you got it. I am pleased to have made you happy. Now that I have done so, I hope you won't bother me anymore, at least until...

    Darwin's Illusion

Cladking - Arguing against religious beliefs is difficult. I appreciate your efforts. Your posts are interesting and show more patience than I am willing to exercise at present, because of the futility of trying to explain (not persuade, just explain) to closed minds. Whether true or false...

    Darwin's Illusion

Very many people who study and research and experiment - "scientists" and everyone else, but here, specifically those who identify as professionals of science - utterly reject the outdated fantasies of Darwin. Some of them give lip service, in order not to be prejudicially excluded from...

Do you think christianity and spiritualism can work together?Yes or no?

What is the relationship of philosophy to religion?

That sounds like a conflation of philosophy with ideology. I think what you meant when you said philosophy is something like "one's life philosophy", which I mistakenly took to mean "formal philosophy." Thank you for the clarification.

What is the relationship of philosophy to religion?

I wrote my previous post from a Christian perspective. In Islamic countries logic and philosophy are taught before college. In the U.S. they are not a general requirement even in college. The two Buddhist schools I looked into also require philosophy. I imagine whether logic and philosophy are...

What is the relationship of philosophy to religion?

Not at all. Philosophy of religion is a major field in philosophy. And they both deal with identifying and presenting reality, and they both change their conclusions as new evidence and better explanations appear. Philosophy departments routinely teach about religions. I suspect religios...

What is the relationship of philosophy to religion?

Please explain what you mean about philosophy being anecdotal?

What is the relationship of philosophy to religion?

I love gaining new knowledge. So that makes me a fan of religion and science both, plus more Sadly, philosophy is not a major requirement for people who attempt to indulge in scholarship (or crude argument) in those two areas. As a result much of their arguments, while sounding sound, are...

Demons, is there any evidence they even exist?

No. Why are being so silly! Well, now that you mention it, I suppose there might be people who have deified Darwin. There have been people who more or less worshipped Socrates, Washington, Mao. I think you forgot what I said in response to how darwinism is a religion. So, I am not too...

Demons, is there any evidence they even exist?

Wonderful! I was not addressing "Anyone accepting the scientific evidence for the theory of evolution in the 21st Century". If they are not darwinists fine. I was addressing darwinists according to the description I gave. Now you say there are no darwinists because (you claim) your different...
