Woman faces fines for wreath peace sign

Just shows what a certain combination of ignorance and self-belief turns into.... You have to watch these Homeowner Associations, I am convinced the next bid for world domination will come from someone who did a HA chairperson post for three successive terms....power corrupts but power in...

    Is Sex Incompatible With Spirituality?

funny! This has actually come up as a discussion topic in one church when a load of cross-dressers started attending and I was a bit put out by some of the talk and appearances which I had to explain to my then 7 year old.... Yes I think sex can be very spiritual but not public displays of...

Jewish influences within the new testament

How? How do you trace it? What are the oldest original texts we have to go on? How do we know that Tanakh has not evolved the same way other scripture has, and that it is not influenced by the same factors?

Jewish influences within the new testament

I am of the opinion that it is impossible to understand the history of either Christianity or Judaism in full without studying both; there are very few ancient texts to go on, they are simply copies or records from the oral/aural traditions, and the writings of early Christians must have...

    Faith is taught

faith is personal: religion is ethnocentric and 'taught'. It's taken me about 200 years to join together my simple faith in the spirit to the religions around me. I don't think any one religion can contain more than a glimmer of G_d- people are involved!

    What are your Thanksgiving plans?

Happy Thanksgiving! What is everyone doing? Is anyone alone for the holiday? I will be working in the morning ( music group with alzheimer patients ) then going to my ex and son for turkey dinner, drop by a couple of friends with pie then home for a quiet evening reading and writing by myself!

Jesus... a Man Or a GOD?

I believe Jesus was a man, he never said he was G_d or that we should worship him. He was a prophet, to me the greatest prophet but not to everyone. In the past couple of years I have been to churches where the word/concept 'G_d' has been dropped in their services, it's all been about Jesus, I...

What are the root causes of abortion?

I was a social worker back in England some years ago, I think sometimes the kids need honesty, which they don't get...hopefully they find that although they were unwanted by the birth parent(s) there are others who will love them unconditionally. Thank you!

What are the root causes of abortion?

'Eeek. I hate the term unwanted children. I hope no child ever hears that said about him/her.' it's not a matter of hearing it is it, it's living it if you're abandoned in an orphanage or neglected all your childhood!

What are the root causes of abortion?

'For added irony, those children who were born that would not have been otherwise were the ones who overthrew that jerk.' I don't know, the way he was 'overthrown' wasn't exactly desirable either, lynch mob!

If you allow homosexuals marriage then...

Marriage for gays? Why not- I'm all for equality and why shouldn't gay people be miserable too ( smile- someone here just filed for divorce! ) There is a big distinction between healthy relationships between consenting equals, and abusive relationships with a power imbalance...incest would too...

What are the root causes of abortion?

I woke up thinking about this, something that we haven't discussed. In the Ceacesceaucommunist years in Romania women and babies were seen as public property and women were subjected to intense examination and pressure to have children and continue with unwanted pregnancies, contraception was...

What are the root causes of abortion?

'Personally, I have never known anyone who got pregnant using the pill.' oh I know a small number of people personally whose children were the result of pill failures, all as someone said after some illness where they weren't absorbed properly.

    The Tyranny of the Minority

Ignore might be diminuishing, yes, but what if the differences don't matter or occur to the communication or connection between the people involved? If I am enjoying someone's work or conversation or they have cute eyes why would I notice if they don't walk around or other superfluous matters...

    The Tyranny of the Minority

Language is imperfect communication! UU hymns can be bland in the extreme maybe because the original sentiment, the passion, of the writer has been lost. But if someone objects specifically like the non-smoker or the blind person it's a matter of balance where to draw the line depending on...
