Why take a religious text literally?

I think it’s because people want magic to be real so badly. I know I do. People will die on their hill for it though even if it’s not true and I think that’s sad.

    Religions and homosexual men

Never met a guy who believed what lesbians do is gross. Gay guys on the other hand well…a lot of homophobia goin on there. Did you know the word homosexual wasn’t added to the Bible until 1946 which proceeded the lavender scare. McCarthy was such an *******.

How do you reply to "That's just your opinion"?

It’s frustrating I bet when you give a compelling argument and someone just ignores it because their mind was already made up and they are totally inflexible. My family is like that. I think the best way to deal with it when it gets to the point where you realize the person isn’t honest is to...

How do you reply to "That's just your opinion"?

Have to go with Voltaire on this one. Opinions may be like ******** but the right of someone to their own opinion is a paramount freedom.

    Answering Atheists

I’m new and I’m sure someone pointed this out but it looks like you are going the long way around the evidential problem of evil. Your question is formed like a modus tollens: If the premise is assumed to be true, the conclusion necessarily follows. It almost certainly raises some red flags for...

Can the faith of one religion discredit the faith of another?

Yeah, stuff like that in religion raises a red flag for me. It’s impossible to tell who’s right and who’s wrong. I think that’s all it takes for me not to rely on faith. Doesn’t matter how many different ideas about faith you have according to old books it still doesn’t reconcile who’s right and...

Can the faith of one religion discredit the faith of another?

I think that shows a pretty big problem with the idea that faith is reliable. I wouldn’t trust either of their opinions probably.

Religions actively employ the cycle of abuse.

This totally reminds me of psychology class. There has been a bunch of different students and professors of psychology that have studied and have written papers about this and there is a ton of data. I believe it’s the study of group dynamics. It was really interesting stuff if I remember.

How does the Epic of Gilgamesh discredit the story of Noah’s flood?

I’m not positive but I’m pretty sure Bible scholars don’t even think the flood actually happened.

Girls don't go to school -- the Taliban says so.

That’s crazy. No sir, I don’t like it. Shouldn’t Muslims do something about it? Isn’t it kind of their responsibility even though it’s probably America’s fault the Taliban exists? Also maybe some reparations. Don’t Muslims believe in charity or tithing at least? What does the Quran say?

    Your Suffering

I’m pretty sure it’s me that causes it. That and adhd and I don’t think I’m like as neuro typical as some people.
