You misunderstand the real meaning that Satanists convey when one declares his or herself their own God.
As a God, you declare yourself the most important thing in existence (to yourself.. you are your own god, not anyone else's.) As a God, you hold yourself to a higher standard of excellence...
You should read Desmond Morris's The Human Zoo: A Zoologist's Study of the Human Animal. It discusses the difficulties human nature is having adjusting to modern life.
