Alex Jones banned from Facebook, Apple, Spotify, and Youtube.

The latest from Alex. Interesting bits in bold, extra-interesting bits bold and italicized: "It now stands with you and the U.S. military who I know already understand who the Chicom operatives and the traitors are to understand who's trying to take the First Amendment, who’s trying to bankrupt...

Music generally liked that you don't like.

Eh, I think for the most part '00s popular music is much worse than '10s. I mean, this decade we had that indie boom in the early part of the decade, which produced plenty of interesting stuff like Gotye and The Decemberists - plus well-written alternative rap by artists like Lupe Fiasco and...

Music generally liked that you don't like.

Mostly agree on her current stuff. I really like some of her older songs though; Rolling in the Deep, Skyfall. In general I think her voice shines on jazzy tunes, and the slow ballads she's been working with lately don't suit her. Y'all need more reggae in your lives.

Music generally liked that you don't like.

Only half-agree on The Beatles. I'm not big on their early period, and honestly their late psychedelic one is probably overrated, but a lot of their mid-'60s baroque-pop work is just amazing. Eleanor Rigby remains one of the most intricate and creative pop songs ever made. Completely agree on...

Sicko Revisited: What do other countries have to teach us about healthcare?

I basically agree with Altfish's posts here. What specific model you use can be debated, I prefer the Swiss (well-funded public insurance option within a competitive system) and Canadian (fully public insurance; mostly private hospitals) models to the government-run-hospitals British one for...

Question for Americans. How will you vote in the midterms?

Yuck. I could half understand this in New York, and yet you never see ads like this here. What terrorist is hankering to attack Arizona? More than fearmongering, I swear it's just coded "I'll give you all the pork you need" to your state's large military population. That was gloriously bad...

What Madison meant by "all men are created equal" is equal opportunity in civil society offered to all free white men, later rightly expanded to all citizens. The principle really has never been equal political say, else we'd have an elected judiciary and direct election of the President. The...

I wouldn't consider myself one now, at least not a classical one, but that's an arcane technical discussion on how to respond to a recession. The short of it is that inflation and unemployment rose and then fell in tandem in the '70s crash, debunking Keynes' theory that they existed as a...

each year many unborn babies are deliberately aborted.

Personally, the simplest explanation for when a human life begins seems like when all the basic components of what goes into a life come together, which would be conception. Before then, you need something extra for an organism that could become a human life in any sense would form. After then...

    If masculinity can be "toxic"...

He said he grabbed their crotches out of the blue, and they just let him do it. That's claiming they didn't act to stop him, while the rapey behavior is going on. I don't know how things are in Italy, but in America normal people don't give random girls crotch-grabs at parties, and it's taken...

I agree with this. Also sort of with this, though I think slavery was supported mostly for greed-based/economic reasons. Desire for expansionism, instead, seems like it was to a significant degree for protecting the institution rather than vice versa - expansion into the Southwest was mainly...

Hm. Even as an e-celeb, I don't think Yiannopoulos can be described as an "easy target." He was enormously popular on the right at that point in time, and holds onto a cult of personality even after he was caught on tape sheltering pedophiles. I don't believe it was, no. They had many...

How should we view Jesus in the Dharmic Religions?

So far as I know, Shakti beliefs generally include avatars of the Devi as well. Avatar - Wikipedia Some forms of Buddhism also have a similar doctrine by way of Trikaya, one of the three of which makes earthly Buddhahood a sort of incarnation of a force with two other outside bodies. Whether...

each year many unborn babies are deliberately aborted.

For many current ones that's unfortunately true, but the Consistent Life Ethic is a thing. They tend to be anti-war as much as they're anti-abortion, and as they're usually Catholic, also often anti-capital punishment.

Question for Americans. How will you vote in the midterms?

I'll be voting Democrat for Congress, because the Republican majority has passed legislation that's decimated public health insurance and environmental protection, and has behaved in a very un-fiscally conservative way in enacting deep tax cuts without a comparable slash in porkbarrel spending...

    Your US midterm election predictions

#1: Democrats, their polling is rising and it's been consistently ahead. #2: Narrowly held by the Republicans unless there's some kind of Mueller bombshell, the seats that are up are overwhelmingly in red states. #3: Yes, almost definitely.

How should we view Jesus in the Dharmic Religions?

Yeah, I should have specified "Vaishnavite, Shakti, Mahayana and Tibetan Buddhist." I didn't mean to lump Shaivites, Sikhs, or others in.

How should we view Jesus in the Dharmic Religions?

Basically the core of why I look to Eastern religions rather than Western ones is the inability to reconcile a deity that's both cosmically all-powerful and completely all-loving with logic. So, I can't believe Jesus was the embodiment of a deity that's both. But otherwise, his teachings seem to...

It appears that the Trump administration is getting ready for his use of the N word.

Yeah, Augustus' post seems solid to me. I actually do think Trump is likely a racist, based on his long history of what look very suspiciously like racially-tinged renting policies and growing up under the roof of a documented probable KKK supporter. It wouldn't be at all surprising to learn...
