    Suicide Memes - Advice Needed

As there are people on this board with a whole load more experience than me, I thought I'd ask for some guidance. I have a young (much younger) acquaintance - a previous co-worker - who I have recently befriended on Facebook. I know there are mental health issues, although this person comes...

    Almost heaven, West Virginia?

A question for the US members. As a UK dude, if I visit the USA I'd like to avoid the regular tourists spots. Where for you is your slice of almost heaven?

Spirit and Soul in Christianity - A Question

Most folks use these terms interchangeably but I've seen Christians distinguish between these two. If you are a Christian, or understand their doctrines, how do they differ for you?

    Walmart shelves 'hyper-sexualised' Cosmopolitan

Cosmopolitan, one of the world's largest magazines, is being removed from view at thousands of checkouts by the US supermarket giant Walmart. National Centre on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) say it's a #MeToo development! Ms Halverson from NCOSE argues that women's magazines and Cosmo in...

Why are Millennial Women so... ???

Through friendships, work or where I live I know quite a few millennial women. They are articulate, intelligent, well educated, pretty and confident. Problem is, I'm discovering more and more of them have issues around depression, self-harm, eating disorders and even attempted suicide. I can't...

What is more important for Christians; Eucharist or intercessory prayer

As a non Christian, I would have assumed that it's Eucharist but many seem to disregard it and all practice intercessory prayer. What do Christians think? Why doesn't Eucharist seem to matter as much?

The Reach and Extent of Maya?

Not wanting to derail the Upanishad thread, I thought I'd ask my Hindu friends a question regarding Maya. My understanding of it may be incomplete, as it's mainly informed by my study of Kashmiri Shaivism, and the non-dualistic 'take' I have on it. As far as I understand it Maya equals Shakti...

A star has gone out - Ursula K Le Guin

Sad to hear the news this morning of the death of one of my favourite authors Ursula K Le Guin. I first discovered and fell in love with her Earthsea novels when I was a kid and I still love them today. US fantasy author Ursula K Le Guin dies

    Union with Shiva

This comment made me recall a very useful vid I found on this subject. It's quite deep, content-wise, though presented in a new-age kind of way. The 52 verses of the Yoga Spandakarika by Vasugupta are really worth spending some time with.

    RETURNING TO SHIVA

One of the most profound texts I've ever read, just wanted to share it. RETURNING TO SHIVA The Sage Vasishtha said: The Goddess dances with her arms outstretched, moving like a swaying forest of tall pines against the empty sky. She is the power of the intellect, ignorant of herself and ever...

    Hi

A brief intro. I'm an infrequent poster on various Buddhist and Hindu sites. My background was initially Tibetan Buddhism, then shifted more towards Theravadan but still with a foot in the Mahayana (including Zen). In addition to this I have great respect and interest in Kashmiri Shaivism.
