Like my friend @Aupmanyav stated, the gods/goddesses of Hinduism each respect one's role. I understand your metaphor completely and understand that the Quran clearly states that Allah has no offspring, partner, helper, etc; however, I couldn't agree with you more. I believe that the 'captain' of...
So during recitation of Sri Rudram, is it common to not recite mantra for offering diya, ghee, parsad, etc?
I mean no disrespect to the followers of Sathya SaiBaba but I have heard nasty rumors circulating about the said crimes, which you had mentioned.
I intend to start committing one hour a day to learn Sri Rudram. I do abhishekam to Lingam daily but would like to be able to recite Sri Rudram for my lord. :D
Apologizes for double response.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that different Saivite schools of thought have different ways to perform pooja to Lord Shiva. I've often seen that there is no mantra reciting for offering seat, prasad, etc, while others I have.
I have learned a little about Nyasam, as of now I do not perform it during pooja but do hope to learn. The link you sent me seems to be tremendously helpful! I have bought several books that have attempted to explain nyasam and pooja procedures but many of them fail to be clear cut and dry...
And oh the varieties!
As a westerner growing up in a strict Catholic house Hinduism definitely turned my world upside down when I started my journey. I am of the Saivite sect of Hinduism, which makes up a fair amount percentage. Hinduism is a very broad umbrella encompassing a billion...
I still have a long way to go in terms of meditation, as it is hard for me to visualize Lord Shiv without thinking of his anthropomorphic body. I don't know the specific school of thoughts on how one must meditate but I try to think of lingam.
I do this as well. I do Shivalingam abhishekam everyday! While I do have a murti a Lord Shiva, I usually perform abhishekam to the anthropomorphic murti here and there as I please. I've realized with time that I do have a stronger connection with lingam but it is nice to have a face to Lord...
I worship Lord Shiv as Brahman himself. Lord Shiv is the formless face of the supreme being and his Shakti acts as the power in which created all things. Most Hindus do not hold this to be true because Lord Shiva could possibly be someones chosen deity (ishtaDeva) or simply another face to...
This I would agree with, like you had stated, on the surface level they seem distinct with different names, features, and stories, yet they are just different beings in which are manifestations of Him, Lord Shiva.
Although I agree we should not argue amongst our fellow Hindus which god/goddess...
Greetings fellow Hindu DIR,
As someone who believes Lord Shiva to be the supreme being I was pondering on the idea of monotheism vs polytheism. (I hope I posted in the right section.) If Lord Shiva is the supreme and all things created were created from Him then where do other god/goddesses...
As a Saivite Hindu, it can be oversimplified by saying that Lord Shiva is the supreme being and all other gods/goddesses are manifestations of Him. I would consider monotheism the correct term when presenting my beliefs to other, but other Hindus may not.
So here's where things can get...
I understand where you're coming from. I'm in my early 20s and most of people in my life are not spiritually or religiously inclined and thus it is hard to connect on that type of level/subject. I personally don't drink, so often I find myself at a bar with friends but not drinking and that type...
If you're interested in following Brahmacharya I would suggest, like Vinayaka did, that you go to temple and more importantly do seva. I'm not sure where you live but the whole COVID19 scare is in full affect and if going to temple isn't the best idea, I would suggest you find some good reads...
