There are two different little horns prophesied in book of Daniel. Scripture doesn't repeat itself unnecessarily. The first little horn was Antiochus Epiphanes but the second little horn prophesied was Adolf Hitler.
The problem many have is that they assume every time a similar phrase is...
The "kingdom" passed from
1. The Neo Babylonian empire.
2. The Medo Persian empire.
3. The Greek empire.
4. The pagan Roman Empire.
Then the "kingdom" broke into east and west, with papal Rome in west and Muslim rule in the east. The prophecy was that the "kingdom" would be a divided kingdom...
I am not an expert on the Revelation, although I claim to understand the book of Daniel. With that being said, a historicist interpretation of Daniel points to Adolf Hitler as the little horn who will persecute the chosen for a time, times and a dividing of time. The holocaust lasted 3 1/2...
But the current Jewish belief in Moshiach, although far fetched, is still within the realm of possible. Maimonides removed the miraculous from Moshiach. He claimed that the coming of Moshiach will not necessarily be accompanied with miracles. It might be farfetched that a great leader will come...
The millerites said the world will end October 22, 1844. They sold their houses and farms and gave all their $ to the sick and poor. Then they all climbed a mountain in nothing but pure white robes and waited for Jesus to come back. When I told this to my girlfriend, she said, "that's just...
I take the allusion to Leviathan to mean that to be great also means you are solitary. For if there are many of you, you lose greatness.
Leviathan is both great and solitary. And he is greater because of being solitary. Hey, Job, I the Lord punished Leviathan to make him solitary, and now he is...
So when I said that fiction can teach valuable lessons, then you say, "I disagree! Fiction can teach valuable lessons! Look at Aesop's Fables!"
How is that a disagreement?
Go to it! This is excellent. Also consider making a family tree of gods and goddesses. There already is one available on the internet. You could improve on that one. Good luck.
Wow, you reiterate my view that fiction can teach a lesson, then pretend that that isn't what I said, and then pretend that you are correcting me when you are just repeating what I said.
However, I like that you compare Leviathan to a dinosaur. Bill Cooper the creationist has made a good case...
That's a good point. Leviathan, for the legend to be true, is solitary. He is probably dead if he ever existed at all. His role of being the book of Job as some kind of symbol of deeper meaning, like a metaphor, like you say is more important than whether he actually existed.
"Legends of the Jews" is the largest collection of midrash. I might have read this there. I used to own a copy of "Legends of the Jews." Since that is the only collection of midrash I ever owned, I imagine that this story is in there. Otherwise, I can't recollect off hand where I read this...
It is simply a midrash. There is no way to produce evidence for the existence of Leviathon unless some deep sea expedition digs him out of the ocean. Of course there is no evidence for the story, because it isn't true in the sense of being literal. I asked in this thread to suspend disbelief...
Hello fellow religionists. There is no need to question the truth value of the myth of Leviathon at least not in this thread. Assume it is true before you are critical of it.
God created a very vicious animal he called Leviathon. God saw the need to stop this animal from procreating. God...
Let me ask a question. So Jesus comes back, then what? I mean they say he will kill all the wicked. Does anyone really want that to happen? Maybe I should start a new thread with this question.
First off, the Tanakh (the Bible) is not the only book that I study or believe in. With that being said, the second time God created the universe, he created the laws of nature in such a way that allowed the possibility that humankind could fall into hopeless depravity without chance of...
To make it worse, remember that the first time God made the universe it collapsed on itself and the earth became "formless and void." Genesis 1:1. So God got it wrong twice but then gave us the rainbow as a promise that he finally got it right and the world will never be destroyed again.
As for...
Stephen Hawking the genius in theoretical physics once made a strong case that the universe has always existed much as it is now. Meaning that there is no First Cause. (I capitalize that because I personally believe the First Cause is God.) I hope that answers your question. That it is without a...
If you call this circular reasoning, go ahead. But if the premise is that there is an Almighty God who can change the laws of nature at whim, then one cannot assume any dating methods are accurate. It is very simple, I would expect a man of your alleged education to understand. So we claim that...
Again you resort to insults instead of addressing my argument. Dating is only reliable if you assume uniformitarianism. Right off the bat, the Bible makes it clear a believer can't believe in uniformitarianism. But I don't anticipate that you will address the argument but that you will just...
