The KJV, NIV are right. The portion quoted in the Greek is in English "God is the Word;" the same God as in the previous sentence, "And the Word with God."
Actually, I see "life during death" as the most controversial. I can understand "life after death" because I believe all will be resurrected at different times in the future, thus, that is "life after death." The phrase doesn't mean "life immediately after death," IMO. Indeed, that would be...
I agree with you, SF, and Col. 1:20 verifies it. In the KJV, we read: "And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven."
Another comment that might clear up things: so...
My friends, it is unfortunate that the concept of "conscious eternal punishment in hell" ever got started. It was started by Augustine of Hippo, and became a doctrine in the RC church. Augustine borrowed it from Platonic-Greek philosophy.
There is no such place as a "hell," maybe some where...
The sad thing about the teaching of "hell" being a place of unending torment, is that there is no such place.
There may be many philosophies, teachings about it, but the final authority must be the Scriptures, those translated as literal as possible.
The concept of "conscious eternal torment"...
Hi. If "Lucifer" is one of Satan's names, then why isn't it in Rev.12:9? "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world.."
"Lucifer" is chosen for the Hebrew word meaning "enlightened or lights", sometimes rendered "morning star." I believe it was part of the satire concerning the Prince of Tyre.
MY RESPONSE: As I read it considering the context, all who dwell on the earth will worship the beast (ruler) empowered by the dragon (Satan), those who names are not written in the Lamb's book of life.
It says nothing here about them being destroyed by fire on the judgment day.
In Rev.20:15 we...
I agree with your interpretation of the passage in Isaiah 14, that it is a proverb against the king of Babylon, who in his heart would be like the Most High.
If "Satan", "the Devil" are only titles, then, does he have a name? Actually, I see his name is Satan, which means, as you pointed out...
Hi Linwood. Interesting that you, not being a believer know something of the Bible.
I would encourage you to consult a Bible Concordance, and you will find that "hell" used in the OT is the Hebrew word, "Sheol," which basically means "unseen," and should be translated "the grave" in most cases...
Based upon the Scriptures, you are on the right track.
Throughout the Scriptures, life and death are contrasted, with Life being the reward and Death being the loss.
Indeed, the wages (or ration) of sin is death, as you quoted from Rom. 6:23, not "conscious eternal torment" as is the popular...
