    Goodbye.

I intend to leave RF, so goodbye to all you kind-hearted folk of every persuasion who have engaged me in debate. Hopefully I didn't bore you guys too much by being obsessed with one topic, and my apologies if I ever offended you personally. Fair winds & following seas.

Jesus's virgin birth between Talmud,New Testimony, and Quran

The only misinformant in this conversation is you. 1. I never wrote in this thread that the Abrahamic religions "are responsible for all of the world's problems" as you claim. Instead, I stated "IMO ... [they] are the root causes of most of the world's troubles". 2. I also never wrote that...

Swedish "Feminist" officials wear headscarves in Iran

Hopefully she was progressive enough to ensure that she was properly chaperoned by her father, brother, or husband, or she might be considered to be of "dubious moral standing".

Do the Jews, Christians and Muslims worship the same God....?

Because Allah is a name that is not found in the Christian or Jewish scriptures? "Ilah" is the Arabic term for "God", whereas "Allah" is a proper name specific to Islam.

Why do some people drive so slow?

I'm with @Revoltingest, I have no problem traveling at a speed less than the maximum speed limit (I don't go under any posted minimum limit), in order to save resources and optimize my gas mileage, and to time stoplights, etc. I'm well within the bounds of the law. I see the speeders around me...

Jesus's virgin birth between Talmud,New Testimony, and Quran

I'm sorry your opinion is that my argument is uninformed - I believe otherwise. I was on topic, addressing the OP's concern that we address the logic behind these stories, and I certainly did.

Jesus's virgin birth between Talmud,New Testimony, and Quran

I stated one characteristic which I perceive covers multiple religions, I never claimed that the multiple religions were "one thing".

Jesus's virgin birth between Talmud,New Testimony, and Quran

I said "Abrahamic Religions", which covers multiple religions. Please stop misquoting me. I will categorically say that I do understand the Abrahamic Religions, because I was one of them, for decades.

Jesus's virgin birth between Talmud,New Testimony, and Quran

IMO the stories are trash, and have arguably manifested in the worst in humanity. The Abrahamic religions are the root causes of most of the world's troubles (especially manifested in their innumerable wars down thru history). Yes, I judge them by their fruits, and the fruits are rotten.

Jesus's virgin birth between Talmud,New Testimony, and Quran

Logic is not the same as evidence, and evidence is not the same as proof either.

    Buddhist prayers

It's not strictly a prayer, but I chant "Namo Tassa Bhaghavata Arahato Samma-Sam Buddhassa" regularly every morning and evening to my Buddha-rupa; it puts me in a meditative state of mind and anchors my sense of direction for the day. Also, the refuges in the Triple Gem, and the taking of the...

Jesus's virgin birth between Talmud,New Testimony, and Quran

... or, different people thought up different angles to the "Jesus" story as a way to control and manipulate their respective followers. This argument seems the most logical to me.

    Meditation

Sounds similar ... in the way I understand Buddhism, jhana is the practice, samadhi is that which is achieved in the practice.

    Buddhism for Beginners

First, I must ask, what type of Buddhism appeals to you the most? Early Buddhism, Theravada Buddhism, Mahayana Buddhism, Zen, Tibetan/Vajrayana Buddhism, or modern eclectic ("lite") Buddhism? Here is a post I previously wrote which summarized some of the major differences, from a broad perspective.

    I am here to learn.

Welcome, @peacefulpigeon ... I was a Christian, for 30+ years, and I converted to early Buddhism myself. Looking forward to conversations with you!

    Meditation

Meditation in early Buddhism is defined strictly as the achievement of jhana, which is singleness or concentration of mind on one subject. Jhana can be achieved in any position by experienced practitioners.

    Introversion or Extroversion

IMO introverts tend to internalize their ideals regarding spirituality, and are drawn more towards religions and philosophies that lean more towards internal/mental development, e.g. ascetic Hinduism, Jainism, early Buddhism, mysticism, gnosticism, hermetics, meditation/yoga, Kabbalah, etc...
