Ok, I have to say it...I am completely turned off by the idea that if you tell someone they are sinning and they don't stop IMMEDIATELY or even remotely soon, then the church has some sort of right to judge them and kick them out. While there are several cases where this "not stopping" is...
Thanks for answering. Now, you didn't answer one of my questions earlier, so I will ask it again. You said that all revelations come through the senior apostle only - and this idea comes from....the Bible? What is your (or the LDS) take on the Gentile church, since this revelation did NOT...
an ancient Quorum? *is confused*
Paul was not in the original twelve - was he an apostle? If he was (and I consider him an apostle), did he replace someone?
I'm assuming this 'senior Apostle' extends from Peter's apostleship. He's my most likely candidate to be the original senior apostle...
One thing I don't understand is why there are 12. Was this number a 'revelation from God' or was it just decided to mimic the 12 disciples? Because...there were more than 12 apostles, unless Mormon doctrine teaches otherwise.
What I'm wondering here is-is it a give in that the spot will be...
None of the sites you gave me give me any information. I mean, there's plenty of info about what the leadership does, why it's there and there are long biographies about these guys, but nothing explains the process. THIS SERIOUSLY BOTHERS ME.
As an architect, I can assure you that once the foundation is laid - it is laid. Just because a steeple or a window is built of different materials and looks different than the foundation doesn't mean it doesn't rely on the foundation.
Are 'apostles' well versed in Mormon doctrine when they get this 'revelation?' Like, have there been any apostles that had a 'revelation' before they became Mormon? Have there ever been particularly young apostles? Different races? Or is there a link where I can find this info? I'm curious...
So is Abraham in charge of this first 'judgement' then? I mean, if you're going to take the parable literally then you should take it all literally, right?
hmmmm i find this interesting
WHOA WHOA WHOA....you're taking the reference to Hell in Luke 16 as a reference to an actual 'place of torment'?! Um, that's a parable. How many other parables do you take literally, if I may ask? Parables have a point. The point of the parable is verse 31. It seems rational to me that...
I agree with you, but that image on the OP shows the "great gulf" separating the 'good' and 'bad'...and THEN the judgement. Maybe i'm reading it wrong, but it seems that the judgment really doesn't do much since everyone is already separated. It implies that we are judged twice - once at death...
1) This verse was already discussed, I believe. If not....oops.
2) I have slightly different viewpoint towards it. Notice that while the believer has gained something, the unbeliever has not lost anything. "the wrath of God remains on him." This is the same as John 3:18: "Whoever...
Cursing is rather habitual - and contagious. If I allow myself to say a certian word repeatedly, I'll eventually say it without even realize I'm saying it. Also, if I'm around people who curse a lot, I find myself wanting to curse as well. It all goes back to controlling whatever comes out of...
Well said. :clap I can't imagine being told that my own sexuality was a sin. It's not a matter of "Oh really, I'll just change my sexual orientation, then!" If a gay person becomes a Christian, how dare anyone hold their sin against them - as if they are not a good enough Christian. The...
There's a difference between "believing that homosexuality is sin" and running around proclaiming to homosexuals and the general public that homosexuals are sinners and banning them from churches. Last I checked, this thread is discussing the latter.
My question is, why does sharing the good...
There is an unbelievably HUGE difference between confronting a brother or sister in Christ and confronting an unbeliever. If you want evidence, look at how Jesus treats 'sinners' versus the way he treats "religious people" in the gospels. Jesus does not hesitate to condemn those who should...
To go along with Mister T
It is not our job to worry about the sin of unbelievers. It's God's job to reveal sin to an individual (this is called CONVICTION by the HOLY SPIRIT) We bring people to God, God does the rest. God does not require someone to be sinless or even aware of their sin in...
