Greetings my brothers and sisters,
I have posted a message before explaining a brief study I am doing on individuals who are religious. I am very interested in religion and whereas most people in my class decided to do research on other things, I am the only one that decided to do a study on...
Thanks for completing the survey ReligiousAndProud and Caladan! The questions were mostly composed by my supervisor so I'm not offended but feedback is very good so that improvements can be made for the future so all feedback is welcomed and would be good actually :)
That's a good point, and...
May peace be with you all.
I've talked before in other threads about my love and enjoyment of religion.
It is so great that I decided to do my final year university project on the views of individuals from Abrahamic religions on certain issues in society and how this issues should be dealt...
That's a good point about the theological and practical distinction. I guess the question would indeed be can it be made to be practical. For example, just as a person might listen to classical, jazz and rock music might it not be possible to have a person mix their religious practises (I know...
I hope this is the right place for this question otherwise it would be good if it would be moved to the right place.
My question is about Chinese Folk religion. It has almost half a billion adherents yet it does not seem to be treated like a religion. For example, on surveys asking about...
I actually recently started another post saying that one university professor (Mark W Muesse) has an interesting approach to religion where he sees himself as different percentages of different religions (e.g., 26% Muslim, 23% Jewish, 19% Christian, 17% Buddhist, 10% Sihk and 5% Jain).
I...
I think porn can be bad but I don't know if banning it will do more good than bad. The negative consequence of having to censure things we don't agree with, taking away the right of free speech in way, is more deleterious than stopping people from watching pornography.
However, I do think the...
This is a fair point. I remember reading that Heraclitus, due to his bias, talked about the Persians as if they were savages and brutes. This of course was due to his bias. The fact that history is so subjective and prone to bias suggests that maybe it is indeed not reliable.
However, I don't...
I wonder if this is true. It would be amazing to hear that there is life on other planets. Meeting a Martian would be quite cool.
Maybe in 10 or 20 years time they will know more about this, and will be able to prove their hypotheses with certainty. For now maybe we should be a bit sceptical.
Although I am not Muslim, I love all religions and I love to learn about the culture and music of different religions. I'm actually doing courses at university with lots of focus on religion and read about all sorts of religions in my spare time.
This is a great source of Islamic music...
Maybe the difficulty in categorising your religious views means that this religion has not been conceptualised properly and that you should be the one to define it and what it's about! :D
I commend you for openly and acceptingly discussing your personal struggles with not so good behaviours. The most important thing in my view is that you recognise that you can improve your habits and you are working hard to do so. I think God would recognise this and would be forgiving. God is...
A university professor of theology (who did his PhD at Harvard so this suggests that he is intelligent person) Mark W Muesse, has an interesting approach to religion.
He doesn't subscribe to one religion but instead sees himself as different percentages of various religions including...
I second this. Religion brings us together because we have a belief in a God, and even though this God (or gods) is understood in different ways, he is still a manifestation of the same divine being - he is just expressed and understood in different religions.
I would highly recommend checking out the website: thegreatcourses(dot)com and going on the Religion and Theology section. They have, in my opinion, one of the best range of courses on academic subjects, which includes religious studies. The lectures are put together well, all by leading...
