    There is one thing I do remember about the Orthodox mass, the honouring of the angels and the icons. It was different to a Roman Catholic mass and similar to a Byzantine Catholic mass, I presume. As someone who believes in the Orishas and still has a connection to some saints, I'd be interested...

    What about your animist side? Or is that just an approach to the environment (i.e Jesus redeemed the Earth and the Earth is invested with God's spirit)?

    You discuss the Egun and Ifa. Brazil has a strong Yoruba heritage and religions similar to Santeria and Espiritismo.

    As someone with a Catholic background I learnt to honour the saints through prayers and statues and candles. Even now with my altar I usually have a statue with a candle and I might use alcohol but only a few times.
