Hamas vs. Israel, a thought experiment

I have had enough of RF. You people disgust me. @Quagmire and @Debater Slayer Gentlemen, please cancel my membership on RF. Thank you.

Hamas vs. Israel, a thought experiment

Oddly, I've usually been impressed with how restrained Israel responses are. I find your assertions to be, in a word, disgusting. Isn't it amazing that less than a week after perhaps the most brutal and barbaric attack in modern history, far outside anything prescribed by the vaunted Geneva...

    Human Animals?

Though I do not think we should all become knuckle-draggers tomorrow, I do feel that being in denial over our ancestry is not helpful to our mental health as a species. Due to our intelligence, we have convinced ourselves that we are not a part of the animal "kingdom" which we otherwise adore...

    Human Animals?

People are animals. Um, ya know... biology... *giggles* Anyone who doubts that human beings are animals need only visit their nearest prison for a weekend. That ought to do, for most.

    "Human animals"

I haven't heard anyone calling for the death of Palestinian children... other than, good old Hamas... of course.

    "Human animals"

I have always admired your clear-eyed view on topics you choose to write on. To the point, however, when precisely @sun rise did human beings cease to be animals? We are mammals, the last time I checked, but perhaps there has been an email I missed while I was away. It's not an insult. It...

Shows I watch that aren’t canceled or over

Seeing Poirot, on your list reminded me of when I was watching television, I adored the Jeremy Brett portrayal of Sherlock Holmes and feel his is perhaps the definitive rendering of the character. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/tv/0/truest-sherlock-ever-seen-jeremy-bretts-struggle-get-holmes/

Dorothy Eady a Compelling Story of Reincarnation

I get it. It's like a spiritual frequent flyer program. Gotcha. :)

    Steak

I'm doing a pork tenderloin on the BBQ right now, but yes, I always use a timer, even when I forget to get up when the damned thing goes off. LOL.

    Steak

Why is that, Jay? Medical/Dietary concerns?

    Steak

Med-rare, not so rare that it still "Moo's!" As @ChristineM replied, 1 minute per side, though on the BBQ, that is more like 90 seconds. One particular steak I also enjoy is with a peppercorn rub. This concoction really does enhance the taste of the meat without overpowering one's taste buddies.

    Steak

Strip loin (New York Steak) here! I BBQ all year round, and this is often on my grill, though prices have been through the roof of late. I have a lovely Cajun spice mix I slather them with, depending on mood, of course.

Shows I watch that aren’t canceled or over

I often listen to lectures that are a bit dull to sit through, while doing other tasks around the house. Steven Pinker & Jonathan Haidt are two of my current faves. I also love two podcasts, The Lotus Eaters and Triggernometry

Shows I watch that aren’t canceled or over

What I find especially depressing is that I have little doubt that many other human animals would agree with you on this point.

Shows I watch that aren’t canceled or over

I do not watch ANY television, nor have I done so for the last 25–30 years. Even in prison, I barely watched the tube. I prefer reality.

A karmic right to curse someone?

I suppose that depends on how far one wishes to go down the rabbit hole of magical thinking.

A karmic right to curse someone?

I would monitor the situation and keep a lawyer handy. On the note of cursing, though. Your story reminded me of when I first got into therapy and one of my "goto" lines was always, "Goddamn!" often said with a Yosemite Sam type drawl. No one ever picked me up on it till one night I was...

Dorothy Eady a Compelling Story of Reincarnation

Heck, I believe in reincarnation, and yet I do not believe in stories like this. Why is it that no one is a reincarnated peasant or criminal? Always high-priestesses, kings, queens etc... no little people... Odd, really, as there has been a lot more "nobodies" than there have been...

    An interview with Billy Connolly

I can't help but wonder if there will be hilarious people in the future. Connolly is a gem, to be sure, but I have an uneasy feeling that I'm looking at a dying breed.

Estas Tonne: Between Fire and Water

I find it hard to express just what a magnificent performer Estas Tonne is. His blend of mild electronics and echo enhances his classical style immensely and must be stunning to happen upon if he was playing on the street, in your city. The best compliment I can give Estas Tonne is that time...
