I don't know. I have not read any research comparing the cognitive functions of the brains of humans and lemurs.
I think I see our difficulty here. It appears to me that you are describing introspection in a spiritual context but I can only understand introspection in a psychological...
Welcome AgnosticSeeker. There are some good discussions to be had here and the mods here seem like a nice bunch of people. Watch out for the naughty word filter.
Greetings Deshtat. This is a really good place for discussions. I'm also quite new here and have already had some posts deleted because I broke forum rules, twice accidentally and once sort of accidentally. The moderators are firm and fair. Some words you hear on TV everyday are not allowed here...
I understand what you are saying and agree. I think it's the definition of "something higher" where we disagree.
I believe we experience the same types of feeling in response to great art but we describe them differently. I think you call them "spiritual" because you believe in the existence...
Does life have to have a meaning? Who says? What if I don't want my life to have a meaning? Could I live a happy, fulfilling life, being kind to everyone I meet without a having a meaning?

I do not know what "spiritual feelings" are. I have heard them described as feelings which affecting the soul and as feelings caused by a holy place.
I visited the Sistine Chapel last August. It seems to be mainly about taking money from tourists. Looking at the faces of my fellow...
I had a similar discussion with two Jehovah's witnesses last year. I tried, but failed, to get them to understand that the existence of a story in their bible does not prove that the story actually happened. I tried to use the Harry Potter stories as analogy but that freaked them out and they...
I'd like to suggest that art and spirituality be considered separately. Art, such as a painting or statue of piece of music can give a feeling of awe and wonder and a glimpse beyond the present time and culture. I have seen various definitions of spirituality and the feelings and emotions...
I have see the Shroud of Turin. It shows the image of a man.
For this to be evidence of the resurrection of Jesus it first must be proved that
a. the shroud is from the correct historical period
b. the image was made by some process not available at the time, e.g. not painting
c. the...
I fear you have misrepresented the original proposition. The choice is "sticky and gooey", that is, we have no choice. The smooth vs crunchy debate is a red herring. I see no reason to blame this on the cinnabunist cult.
There is a false dichotomy. Research into future space travel and ending current global suffering can be done in parallel. We are not limited to one or the other and we don't have to finish one before starting the other. Yes, lets fix the leaking ship but let's also build lifeboats.
I think it's a good idea. A statue might prompt a visitor to look at a statue and ask "Who is that and what did they do?" This could lead to a cascade of questions, answers and discussion of topics never before considered, and who knows, maybe there will eventually be another mind freed from dogma.
This is interesting concept where that the human-robot is controlled by a committee of "deities of sense and action organs".
I consider "me" to be everything inside and including my skin. I have personality, conciousness and memories which exist as emergent features of a functioning brain...
Yes of course the ICR are ************. They are implying that there is an international conspiracy to manipulate evidence to show that chimps and humans are more closely related than they actually are. How this could be done internationally is hard to see but why anyone would want to is harder...
I know I'm very late in joining this thread but it seems so strange to be debating the use of the word "kinds" in creationism. It feels like a debate over the use of the word "abracadabra" in magic shows.
It's difficult to determine the fudge factor of that image. It may be that the photograph has been manipulated to make the subject appear better than they are in reality or the actual objects may have been enhanced in such a way as to make them appear better when photographed.
