Yeah. All of you are right. It just seems to be a shame that people deny reality to maintain their faith. There must be a way to have both, faith in a supreme being and acceptance of empirical truth.
It's sad to see people call "evolutionists" gullible, etc.
I have been on the Answers In Genesis facebook page for a couple of months. They post articles and arguments that their numerous followers eat up. They think evolution is ridiculous, athiestic and part of a plan to undermine the bible. A few people go to that page to try to convince them...
I accept evolution. Just thought I would post this article to understand what the author got wrong.

Our only child left the nest today and is moving 1,600 miles away. I definitely feel a void and in a way it seems so sudden.
It doesn't seem so long ago that we watched him play little league. High School went fast. College was a blur. Luckily, I have a great wife but it's hard to close...
Let's get specific for a moment. Evangelicals look at the moral decline in America and blame it on secularism as well as the removal of prayer in schools, etc..
True? False?
I'm not sure myself. I ask because I read a couple of articles lately written by Christians. They were trying to make the case that secularism believes morality is relative and without the never changing "Word of God", morality is subject to the whims of the people. Eventually, this secular...
So Jesus is God?
According to Romans 1:3-4, Jesus was designated the son of God at his resurrection. Why would God declare himself to be the son of God at his own resurrection?
Phillippians 2:6-11 "Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above..." Why would...
They will say it's a hint of the Trinity. But is a hint a fact? No, but it's good enough for them. I think polytheism was a more common belief among the Israelites than what the writers of several books of the OT lead people to believe.
I was kind of debating a Conservative Christian and I told him that I don't believe Adam & Eve existed. He responded by saying Adam & Eve existed because Jesus mentioned them. His theology hinges on the fall of man in the garden so he insists Adam & Eve were real people. He said Genesis...
I disagree.
1) Just because someone mentions a person or character in the past doesn't necessarily mean the person believes the person/character in the past is a real person.
2) The bible is not reliable as to what Jesus actually said.
The reason I brought this topic up is I'm tired of Conservative Christians saying to the effect Jesus died for your sins and if you reject Jesus and his sacrifice, you will go to hell.
The link below will bring you to a Judaism website and a long thread about animal sacrifice. You have to wade through some boring responses but it explains different ways to achieve forgiveness as described in the OT.
Animal Sacrifice in General Judaism Forum Forum
This is according to Hebrews 9:22 which Conservative Christians point to as a reason Jesus had to die on the cross.
But there was plenty of forgiveness going on in the OT without the shedding of blood. People obtained forgiveness with a food offering. During the Exodus, God forgave the...
Thanks for the responses. I was looking for point by point refutations such as Wyatt's claim that the geological formation is remarkably close is measurements described in the bible.
It seems like the general refutations like in Wiki have no effect on the believers. Their "rationale" is...
I know this forum is for evolution but some of you guys know archaeology.
Of course, Ron Wyatt didn't find Noah's Ark. If you go to youtube and enter Ron Wyatt, you'll get these slick looking videos such as The Exodus Revealed. I'm currently in a heated argument with someone who posted one of...
I am having trouble understanding 2 Corinthians 5:21.
"God made him who had no sin to be sin[a] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
I was a person who leaned toward Marcus Borg's view that Paul did not see the crucifixion as substitutionary sacrifice or payment...
Someone was arguing on another board that Carbon 14 dating is unreliable and pointed out a Purdue University study that claims that solar flares affect decay rates. I tried to google this study and couldn't find it. I don't think I would understand it if I did.
In light of this study, how...
