Exactly. This is why I'm an atheist. I embrace doubt and I'm okay with not knowing it all. It leaves my mind free to embrace what I do know and just try to be the best person I can be, not what someone else's interpretation says.
I am not religious, but I did go through a period of research, study and self-reflection. I think the important place to start is take note of what you truly believe. What are your thoughts on morality, god(s), etc. By doing enough reading on various religions you may find one that shares your...
Okay, let me clarify a bit here. I am from the same school of thought - I don't feel that all people with a degree in their hands could be considered educated and/or intellectual by any means. I even like to think of myself as one that is fairly well-educated, but that came from my own research...
I don't disagree with you with regards to the voters. It's definitely a societal issue, but I'd still feel better knowing my politicians were competently educated.
Because, clearly, they aren't taking it upon themselves to self-educate. When a potential elected official makes statements about their intended position that are horrendously false, I have to wonder why that sort of behavior is acceptable. If they aren't going to hold themselves accountable, I...
What sort of education would this be? If by that you mean a 4-year degree, I think many already do.
I feel that anyone in the realm of politics, making decisions for others, should be subjected to regular "courses" on US History, World History, Philosophy/Ethics, and Logic.
So, would this apply to everyone? Once you say yes I immediately question its validity. Think of someone with a different mindset; perhaps a sociopath, for example. Would their honest decisions make their actions moral?
Okay, I somewhat agree here. However, being aware of something prior to experience and believing in something solely based on someone else's experiences are two different things.
I was about to edit my post for this, but I'll keep it separate since it was just mentioned. The experience would make a believer, I would think. How can there only be belief in something before experiencing it?
I find there are many decent politicians, but the antics of the unqualified take precedence in the media. My particular congressman is excellent, but you can't get much done in politics by yourself.
I am not one for labels in the sexual department as I think many folks can be attracted to the right person, not just the "right" sex. So, I cant say this response is coming from a lesbian, but it still might be useful. In any case, I enjoy a variety of porn, including man on man, mainly because...
I'm not too fond of rambling introductions so I will keep this a quick list of things you might be interested in knowing. I'm sure you'll get to know me more as time goes on.
- I am a lifelong atheist. (3/4 of my immediate family members are and I'm slowly working on my mother although she's...
Never had one. Though I did used to say I had "my own beliefs" in grade school and even wore a cross at one point, that was more for social acceptance I guess. Kinda silly now that I think about it.
I've never been anything but an atheist. (Although I experimented with religion as a teen I was never truly convinced - which is why I consider myself a lifelong atheist). So I honestly have no other frame of reference. It feels normal to me. *shrug*
