I can see what you're saying. Here, we have a wider range of parties, in the context of a parliamentary system, so I definitely felt that they were alienating a certain percentage of people, even if the overall politics tend to lean a certain direction on the spectrum. ;)
It was off putting...
I'm a little on the skinny side, and am at this point (re)-exploring Christianity, but I'll answer anyway, if it's all the same to you.
Yes. I was in Catholic school for 13 years, youth groups my whole childhood, etc. Then I took theology courses in University, and have continued using the...
Hi there. :)
I have a quick question for all the UU's here...
I attended my local UU church not that long ago and was a little surprised to find political campaign signs, not only on the front lawn, but in the window, endorsing one particular party. I provided them my email at the service...
I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my Dad suddenly, last July, and it sent me into a spiritual journey of sorts, because suddenly, I NEEDED to know where my Dad was. It became urgent to me.
In that time, I resented those platitudes said by others, like the "better place", because...
I have a few random thoughts that I have been working at making sense out of today:
1) I, too, am suspicious. Forgive my mistrust, but it's pretty tough for me to believe anything said by those in any position of power any longer. They've cried wolf (or...you know...weapons of mass...
As I see it, this is an entirely different situation...The OP is referring to a marriage in which it is assumed that both parties are faithful.
Regardless of one's religious or personal views on marriage, a promise is a promise.
I have a friend who is constantly, chronically and...
I'm an adoptive mother, and I don't believe in the Pandora's Box theory.
Everyone has a right to their own truth. The nature of the relationship you develop with these people can be decided as you go, but by all means, you have the right to seek.
My children's history is pretty scary...
I said Christian, but only because Quakerism (including Liberal Quakers) is listed as a Christian denomination on this forum. My whole belief system broken down would not likely be wholly categorized as Christian.
Quakerism, so far, is the closest thing I've found to something that resonates...
It is rare in western society that women are forced into marriage any longer. To me, it's a matter of integrity, and doing the right thing, even when no one will find out. If a woman is not compatible with her partner, in most instances, she has the legal right to walk away from the marriage...
This is a bit of an aside, I suppose...
But, I'm not sure what's inherently wrong with honouring a woman's power to give life? I don't find that to be oppressive at all. Mentioning a woman's womb, or childbirth, etc., does not imply that it is ALL she is "good for", but does speak to a power...
So far, I have been impressed and inspired by Quakers, though I've only gotten to know Quakers of the "Liberal" persuasion, so far. "Orthodox" or "Conservative" Quakers are a little more Christ-centric, typically, however, most Quakers don't believe the Bible to be literal word of God. More of...
I haven't read all the replies, but I can only assume that while this church's efforts were wildly misguided, they were probably well-intended (IMHO). Sometimes, I tell my son (whether he really understands at his age is debatable, mind you...2.5), that his "passion" is a gift and not to waste...
I don't personally believe the Bible to be literal. I believe value can be gleaned from it without ascribing absolute truth to it.
As for the rest? I don't know. Where I am in my own journey is that...if it brings comfort, who cares? Some idea of a God makes sense to me, though I can't define...
Hi, Nisou! :) I've always practiced solitary, but I've come to think that was part of the problem. Feeling disconnected, and needing a sense of community.
I might just PM you if I have a particular question, if you don't mind...I have been on witchvox, and haven't had much luck...I think...
Fair enough.
Non-violence is of course, as I said, the goal. However...
My brother is a recovering meth addict. I love him dearly. But, at his sickest, he was violent, unreasonable, and at times, downright scary. It was being arrested and entering into the criminal justice system that...
@The Sum of Awe: Thanks for the welcome! I have looked into Sikhism, and I definitely find it intriguing. I will definitely continue to research it. Thanks again!
Sorry to revive a thread that seemed to quietly go about it's business. :p
I have been doing much research on the Quakers (Religious Society of Friends) and they are definitely pacifist, which is why this thread piqued my interest.
I heard something of a joke not that long ago:
******
A...
Hi Nisou Kitsune! :)
You know, I have heard that...But when I have identified as Pagan, there has been very little...I guess spiritual support? or community? or something? for anyone who, not only doesn't identify as polytheist, but also anyone who doesn't identify with a particular pantheon...
