She was probably brought up Christian and just can't seem to let go.
To answer the question, I believe you can be Christian if you follow Christs teachings. I feel that should be the only requirement. But if you don't believe the Bible where are you getting your info on Christ? Gnostic scriptures?
I honestly didn't think there was anyone who believed the government on the 9/11 story.. One look at tower 7 and anyone with half a brain realizes there is something going on.
I believe there are a lot of stories of people remembering past lives and of near death experiences. Too many to all be fake and too many to just disregard. Something is to be said about these memories/experiences.

I believe there is no difference between the two. I also don't see much of a difference between praying to "patron" saints and praying to pantheon gods.
