    Expatriation

We've considered it several times over the years, but most likely will never leave. The US is our home, for better or worse, and we'll spend our energy on trying to make it a better place rather than moving somewhere else.

    A thought on Converts

Thank you for this, rosends. I like your reasoning more that the automatic adoption response my rabbi gave. Sometimes I wonder why we don't take the name the of the community we're converting in, as that really is the "family" we're joining.

    Living with a beard!

No. Seriously, do I look like a "jolly" kind of guy?

I've threatened to throw people off the roof for calling me the Jewish Santa Clause.

    What are the 10 Commandments?

In Judaism, the aseret hadibrot are laid out in Exodus 20. But, since there are 613 commandments in total, we don't focus on the 10 found there too much. They're seen more as categories that the 613 fall under, and can be broken down as commandments dealing with the relationship between God and...

    "Don't bother converting"

My wife wasn't Jewish when I converted, and we had to prove to my rabbi that we would work together to have a Jewish home and raise our children as Jews before he would allow me to convert. She and our two youngest children converted several years later. You never know what the future will...

Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, et al.

Judaism states that it is the proper religion for Jews, but not for the world at large. It recognizes that other religions can be valid for other people.

How seriously do you take your religion?

I live as a Jew. I pray daily, I lay telfillin, I keep kosher. I read, ask questions, debate halachic points, and learn constantly. I do my best to live my life according to what my religion teaches.

Would you boycott a business if...

Years ago, before the WinShape Foundation controversy (and my keeping kosher), a friend's son got a part-time job at Chick-Fil-A. Part of their business model is to close every Sunday as a "day of rest and worship". My friend's son was religious, and was written up when he requested Saturday...

Was Jesus the Messaiah? Why or why not?

He failed to fulfill the messianic prophecies, just like the dozens of failed claimants who came both before and after him. It's THAT simple.

That's one of the few smokey Scotchs I like.

    Exactly What Convinced You?

    Trial and error.

    How I approach Torah/Judaism a a gay man.

As you already know, we are bound by halachah even when we might disagree with it. But living a life by Torah is a life-long endevour, and no one starts out hitting it out of the park. If you can master all of the mitzvot but two (homosexuality and procreation), I'd say you're doing far better...

Could Christianity and Islam ever reach a consensus?

What does that have to do with anything I've posted?

Could Christianity and Islam ever reach a consensus?

Are you Lucian's sock-puppet? And before you start pointing fingers for using one religion to establish another, you might want think about the history of your own.
