    Religion as Literature

But secular society is not axiologically neutral; secular axiological systems are not in a different category than religious axiological systems. They may differ in terms of the sources from and the ways in which they are constructed, or a readiness towards revision and inclusivity (itself an...

    Logos, Mythos & Modern Religiosity

I only know, end even that to a limited extent, Western Christianity, so I can't speak of other religions or of forms of Christianity that are informed by a different cultural experience. That being said, if you think about religion as an expression of both Mythos and Logos, then perhaps...

Ask Angellous about his beliefs (Christianity)

I haven't read the entire thread, so I'm sorry if this question has already been asked and answered - what is your perspective on Postmodern thought and its relation to Christianity?

Does anyone of you know if the Moorish Orthodox Church of America still exists as an institution? Does - or did - any of you have contact with or belong to the Church? Regards :)

"I saw the Kaba walking round me". the unorthodoxy of the Intoxicated Sufis

I think that perhaps many people would actually be willing to agree that there is a Universal Reality outside of their scope of observance, a Reality to which they relate trough their own particular religion or path. They might consider their path as one of many - perhaps the best one; not the...

    Jewish fiction

I'm afraid I've never read any fantasy or sci-fi books that would include Jewish themes, but there seems to be quite a few articles, blog entries and discussions on Jewish authors and Jewish themes in those genres: Jewish Science Fiction and Fantasy - a list of works Wandering Stars: An...

Is philosophy a better alternative to religion?

I think it could be argued that a belief system postulating the existence of a metaphysical reality might be a philosophical system, however should it also postulate means to interact with this reality, especially physical / ritual means - then it might become a religion.

What do you consider the most PEACEFUL religion?

And what if beliefs and practices would be defined not only by the scriptures?

"I saw the Kaba walking round me". the unorthodoxy of the Intoxicated Sufis

You raise many immensely interesting questions, Caladan. :) I think neither religious observance nor religious morality might easily be changed on the scale of an entire large group, especially in centuries-old traditions with many followers, traditions which are considered mainstream. To...

    Where's All the Religious People?

I see your point. :) I don't think that psychological teachings are explicitly expressed in the Tanakh or the Bible; I don't know whether they are expressed in the Qur'an. However, I think that Abrahamic faiths and their teachings are not necessarily confined to the Sacred Scriptures...

Why does the Church of England seem to attract at least a few evangelicals?

Well, in what precisely do you see it?

Why does the Church of England seem to attract at least a few evangelicals?

It's unfortunate you see it as goal-post shifting. All I'm trying to say is that there is a great diversity within the Roman Catholic Church, even greater diversity within the Anglican Communion, and that the doctrine of justification by faith might be interpreted in different ways by different...

Why does the Church of England seem to attract at least a few evangelicals?

I personally haven't seen many modern Catholic-Anglican soteriological debates. :) I believe some might agree.
