It takes more faith to be Agnostic

I actually think it maybe takes more 'faith' to be completely an atheist -- to say that God does not exist for SURE (hard atheism) is a position I can't personally hold, even though I am a non-theist (agnostic, more or less) and a secular humanist. I truly, honestly "don't know" whether a...

    Angellous walks the Green Mile

Good luck on that test! You'll do fine. If all else fails, practice whistling the star spangled banner, and they may toss you tidbits.

    New colour sloshes onto palette....

Please, derail away! I love birds. We don't get very exciting ones around here, but I love the cardinals, bluejays (we have far less of them than we used to) and there are some sweet little brown finches. A family member of mine has a bird feeder and has had it for YEARS..... alas, it's also...

    New colour sloshes onto palette....

I'd actually love to know! And if anyone DOES know, please tell me. It's one of the pre-set avatars you can use on this forum.... and I love birds (and other animals) as well as that shade, so I thought it was a gorgeous little avatar! I'm very appreciative to RF for its being made available. :D

Why do you think people make assumptions about orientation?

You make a great point -- if someone is secure with who they are, then why should what others do in the bedroom matter much to them, as long as it's between two consenting adults? *shrugs* Beats me! At any rate.... good for you for just being yourself and debunking 'nonsense' as it comes at you...

    New colour sloshes onto palette....

Thanks everyone! I went home this weekend.... saw family, sweetheart, cat.... and just relaxed... Oh, and I painted my fingernails blue. ;) *wanders off through RF in search of whatever trouble she can get herself into*

Why do you think people make assumptions about orientation?

LOL... well, if we all went around with that information tattooed on our foreheads, I guess that would drastically cut down on the numbers of partners we take home to meet the family..... or just take home in general. ;)

Why do you think people make assumptions about orientation?

Wellllllll....... if SOME people had it printed on a bumper sticker, I'd know which ones to cut off in traffic.... :D :run: Yeah, I'm bad.....

What look(s) are you reading now?

The people I live with were blasting music.... so I started singing at the top of my lungs... just totally random.... I looked out my peephole for any reaction, and I VERY clearly read "AUGH! What the....." (insert favourite expletive here). So I started singing louder until they finally turned...

Why do you think people make assumptions about orientation?

Very good points, both of you. I think I was mostly taken aback because the person I was speaking with tonight is also in teacher education courses with me.... and I find it surprising that she didn't think she knew any gay people, let alone any bi people. I'm used to being part of a silent...

Why do you think people make assumptions about orientation?

I was discussing this with a few people tonight. We got into a conversation on sexuality, and specifically, sexual orientation. It was interesting to hear their assumptions. One who I typically know to be fairly liberal and understanding said long ago that she was straight. OK. But then she...

    Resources and help lines

I wanted to add a few more resources. I know this is an older thread for sure, but if you don't mind, I think these are valuable. :) youthresource.com is for and by GLBTQ young people. advocatesforyouth.org/glbtq.htm is for advocates (parents, teachers, friends) of GLBTQ youth. glbtq.com is a...

atheists:why bother participating in a religious forum?

I joined because I'm in love with human diversity and find it fascinating. I also figure I don't possibly know everything there is to know, so I'll probably learn a thing or ten..... and, finally, even secular humanists who don't believe in God DO believe in the open marketplace free exchange of...

What does humanism mean to you?

In my understanding, humanism means that we have a responsibility to one another, to care for one another, act ethically and with compassion, while thinking critically about the many differences we make to the world around us. It probably behooves us to make a positive difference whenever...

    New colour sloshes onto palette....

Hey, everyone. :) I'm TheColourBlue, and I obviously just joined.... hmm, let's see. A little about me: ~ secular humanist, left-leaning generally ~ artist with an uncontrollable colour obsession ~ a huge fan of philosophy and studying world religions ~ somewhere on the teaching end of the...
