I don't think that any other literal day in the Bible is described as "evening and morning". So the days of creation are different in that regard. Sure the Jews began to start their days in the evening and have them go to the evening of the next day, but that shows nothing but what the Jews did...
if you look at the word in genesis1:1 it implies something fluid or having fluidity. one instance in it's usages literally meaning variant.
something that really doesn't have a fixed shape.
Literal. As in thinking everything in the Bible is historical and concrete, rather than see its many instances of being figurative. Your belief that Genesis1 is historical is just one of many examples.
An example of the difference:
What does "A rolling stone gathers no moss."

I don't "think" that the sun was created on day 4. Genesis1 claims that. It also claims that there were ordinary days, because each one had an evening and a morning. If you know of any long periods, that each one had an evening and a morning, please let us know.
Even the Bible disagrees with...
Why is Water baptism so important to show Oneness with God?
Why did Blood and Water pour out from the body of Jesus on the cross when in the previous verse, He said He was dehydrated??
The Holy Spirit is referred to as Living Water which means Spiritual water because it refreshes the soul in...

That statement is as broad as you accuse other people of when talking of Hinduism.
The Bible is clear, we are all born in the image and potential of divinity, it is our core potential.

The world in the context of Quran doesn't refer to the good things in the physical world which are for us to appreciate God's favor inwardly as well.
It refers to if we make Satan really our direction instead of God. Satan takes over a soul through trickery. The world that is condemned is the...
With all respect, I don't go in for this "spirit good, matter bad; heaven good, world bad" kind of thing. For all the suffering this world has, it has its beauty, its love, its meaning, whether it is listening to birds sing in the early morning, or looking into the eyes of a newborn, or a hero...
Genesis1 tells us that Adam and Eve were created on day 6.
Genesis 2 imo is not a separate creation story but is the same creation story as Genesis1 and concentrates on man and when God formed man.
It can be read as saying that God began to form man from the dirt by evolution and started when...
If the tree of life (which can grant people immortality) was created on day 3 I think they should have mentioned it in Genesis1... though I guess I don't have a strong argument for that.
I guess in order for me to understand, you'd have to be more explicit. But I realize you are working on finding faults with the Bible and so I'll be honest with you, I'm not up to parsing every sentence and event recorded. I do research sometimes to understand more and am happy with what I have...
This is from post #146
It seems the order in Genesis1 isn't compatible with the long day-age theory based on science... another non-literal interpretation is that it is poetic (with two "triads" - see the opening post) and that the order doesn't have anything to do with historical reality.
Not sure what you mean by literal. From what I see a dictionary says about the word literal: taking words in their usual or most basic sense without metaphor or allegory.
Yes I'm familiar with the NET Bible and its extensive notes.
Question #1: Here's how the first three verses of the Bible is rendered in the New Revised Standard Version, Updated Edition published in 2019:
That reading makes it clear that God fashioned the universe from the preexisting chaos...
Correct, he's not a bright man - just articulate.
This is a famous reprisal of his of an older argument that you have undoubtedly seen among the so-called proofs of God. With points 4 and 5, he goes off the reservation with a jump from "the universe has a cause" to giving it intelligence and...
I'm not interested in reading an entire thread before I post my thoughts.
1) Not exactly. God (actually Jesus) had to create the heavens and the earth from something, but I don't know what that "something" is.
2) No
3) No
If you're very interested in this I suggest reading the following (NET...
If one believes the truth of the creation story and is trying to reconcile it with what science thinks happened, it is good to see the Genesis account as a short and concise story that has everything in it that needs to be there for all people from all times in history to be able to understand...
