January 6th, Just What Was It?

That's less the genius of Orwell and more a basic psychology of in-group and out-group behavior.

Ex-Christians: How do current Christians treat you?

But that's another thing then. Perceiving that they don't walk the the talk of their beliefs isn't the same as telling them they don't, or never had, those beliefs.

Ex-Christians: How do current Christians treat you?

I see a bit of a mid-stream boat jump here, you went from a "true" Christian to an "unfaithful" one. The opposite of a true Christian is a false, or nonChristian, while the opposite of an unfaithful one is a faithful one - that is, the scale is of degree of goodness, vs. a scale of trueness.

Ex-Christians: How do current Christians treat you?

PureX, I don’t have the right to tell someone they’re not a true Christian or they were never a Christian I might say I don’t think they’re acting like a Christian, but as others have said here, if someone says they’re a Christian, I take them at that.

Ex-Christians: How do current Christians treat you?

I'm a Christian (Catholic) who's wavered for the past decade but I'm with you 100% on this. I've argued many times over the years with those who use the "no true Christian" fallacy and won't accept it as a valid argument.

On the third anniversary this month of the2020 Covid shutdown, what do you remember?

True, but sometimes being able to look back is helpful, whether individually or as a society. You need some hindsight to see how things could be done better, refined, streamlined. Or what mistakes to be avoided should there be a next time. When you're in the middle of a thing you might not have...

It's been raining all night here in SoCal. This is the rainiest winter I can remember in many, many years, and the greenest green that it gets here. Looks beautiful now, but I shudder to think of the the fuel it will be come fire season.

I can do that too! In fact I've been up for an hour, worked through my coffee, and will be going back to bed shortly and I'll get another hour or two of sleep. I used to do that in the afternoons too, when I couldn't go back for second sleep because of my schedule. In fact, coffee naps are a...

Hah! I'm almost that bad. I don't set it on auto, since I don't wake up at the same time every day, but I do prep it the night before so all I have to do is stumble into the kitchen and press the button. :D

January 6th, Just What Was It?

The House committee investigating the attack on the U.S. Capitol sought to dismiss a right-wing conspiracy theory by announcing Tuesday that Ray Epps, who was seen trying to egg on protesters ahead of the Jan. 6 riot, told committee members in an interview that he was not a federal agent.

On the third anniversary this month of the2020 Covid shutdown, what do you remember?

Humans are predicable, especially when it comes to TP in emergencies. I'm no saint myself, and had to constantly battle the temptation to grab every last one of a thing, and frequently picked up the last one and then made myself put it back, and I'm in no way a hoarder in ordinary times, I've...

On the third anniversary this month of the2020 Covid shutdown, what do you remember?

Society wasn't destroyed. And security and safety are pretty major human aspirations. Remember Maslow's Hierarchy?

Once in a while I've had a medical test (a heart stress test) where I couldn't have caffeine in any form for 24 hrs ahead of time. By switching to only having coffee in the morning, I've lessened the effect as much as possible. :)

The headaches come from the absence of caffeine when the body is expecting it and it's not arriving. :)

On the third anniversary this month of the2020 Covid shutdown, what do you remember?

I knew someone, a younger adult, no mitigating health factors, who was hospitalized for two weeks and it was very much touch and go for a while there. This person definitely regretted not getting the vaccine, and still suffers from long Covid to this day. Those who got it in the early days - it...

On the third anniversary this month of the2020 Covid shutdown, what do you remember?

Same, pretty much. Where I might see more options in hindsight, they're more differences of degree than kind.

    Why This Growing Trend?

I think screen overload has a lot to do with it for a number of reasons including unhealthy levels of self-absorption and isolation, but it's a variable and you make a valid point here because of the problems of causation and directionality. Also - how much of this is a U.S., or a western...
