Solidly atheist.

Where does he state any of that?

Nietzsche
Just about everything he wrote regarding philosophy. You're familiar with the quote "God is dead", right? That was him. He was talking about how the notion of a 'God' cannot be the foundation of morality, because you cannot base something on that which does not exist(more or less).

There's also his quote of "I cannot believe in a God who wishes to be praised all the time"

I've always thought the "God is dead" citation was about self-reflection and that one shouldn't be a blind follower of faith of the material world, since that eventually becomes into superstitions.

However, I see that he is an atheist now with the second quote.

That's part of it, the self-reflection. But that has more to do with the 'Overman' idea, where one rejects societal or "herd" morality and instead seeks to define morality for yourself and only yourself.

Interesting, what book of his would you recommend me?

Nietzsche
Hmm.

The Antichrist is a pretty good summary of everything he talks about.

Thus Spoke Zarathustra is also excellent.
