  • Thanks for the feedback in the recent science and Qur'an thread.
I'm sure you get a much more painful headache out of this.
I'm so glad you're here, ssainhu. It's so important for moderate Muslims to talk to the angry mob, even if it is unpleasant. It helps to defuse the bigoted rhetoric.
Yeah. It's also hard to break away from stereotyping and generalizing, especially when it's with a group whom one has hardly had much experience with in real life. Or atleast it was for me anyways.

That's why I'm so thankfull of being able to talk to the moderate Muslims here, like .lava, Badran and yourself etc. Before I joined RF (and during my period as a newcommer) I often held the view that most Muslims were fanatical mysogynits etc.

But regardless, you may find me on the opposite side of the arguement (I've argued with moderate Muslims before, usually on topics like Equality and Homo-sexuality etc) so even if we end up arguing - it's nothing personal :)
Aye, it's so hard for both sides to have a civilized debate, since it often ends up as a stereotyping mud-throwing contest from both sides.

I dunno how it is in the Muslim world, but atleast in "The West" the Media does promote a lot of generalizations and has a tendency to paint all Muslims with the same brush, so I think when people do end up having debates with Muslims on RF, a lot of the generalizations and innaccurate stereotypes start to fly around.

Hell even I myself was guilty of this to some degree, when I first joined RF, since I don't know any Muslims in real life. But I'm thankfull to have debated with the more moderate ones, and learn quite a lot from it all :)
You speak a lot of sense in the heated debates about issues regarding Islam and Secularism etc.

The last thing Islam needs is more hardliner Muslims with crazy views tarnishing it's reputation here on RF, and although I'm not a Muslim myself and I do often argue on the opposite side - I hope to hear more from you in these types of debates :)
    Hey, thanks.

I'm glad to see a good example like you of an enlightened muslim woman. You certainly give a great impression.
